Disadvantages: crippling small businesses

It cost me £39 to fill my car up yesterday. I thoroughly agree with the call from the Federation of Small Business to "Dump the Pump" by not filling up on Monday 1 August or any Monday after that. 70% of the price of a litre of petrol goes in fuel duty and VAT. This time last year a litre of petrol cost about 70 pence, today it is 83.7 pence. I travel by bus as much as I can, but some journeys are impossible - and surely a car filled with three or four passengers (as mine often is) should be more economical than travel by public transport.
