With Britain being an oil producing nation you would expect petrol prices to be amongst the lowest in Europe. They are currently the highest.

The duty is yet another back door tax that has been continually increased above inflation year on year. This adds expense to every family in the Uk whether they use a car or not.

The cost of fuel used by companies is directly passed on to us the consumer. Use a bus,train or taxi and a large portion of the fare will be to cover fuel costs.

The government is always demanding wage and inflation restraint yet many of the inflationary pressures ar created by those in power.

Fuel duty should be pegged at a level that is fair and level with our European neighbours. The current levels are just too high and hit those on lower incomes particularly hard. The government should not continue to bleed us dry through this tax.

Tony Blairs recent statement that reducing duty by 2p would affect Nursery and NHS funding is nothing short of emotional blackmail. This money could just as easily be taken off arms spending or off the budget for spindoctors and advisers.

"Dump the pump" on the 1/8 and every Monday after.
