Advantages: Umm, just pollution i think...

Disadvantages: The government just wastes our money

ONLY JOKING!!!!. This is a subjest close to my heart, so here goes.

The petrol price currently in the UK are getting stupid, why on earth do we have to pay this much for petrol?, the simple answer being, the government.

So why do we pay so much?

***POLLUTION***

We have heard over the years, that cars obviously cause pollution, a petrol car burns the petrol to make it move, and there is a by product carbon monoxide, in lamans terms, is simply is what the exhaust pipe it for, the car isn’t all good….

More than a third of all cars failed the emissions test last year, due to excessive carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and/or oxides of nitrogen, according to an internet study. Those of us who worry about the air we breathe and/or our precious ozone layer, vehicle emissions are a serious concern, and with more and more cars on the road each day, pollution is getting more of a problem all the time.
The pollution concern has, mainly for political reasons been taken on board by our government, how nice of them. So they have said that the high taxes are to deter people from using cars, and to cut pollution. This is to show that them being in power is doing something for the environment, well at first glace, it may be but think again, it isn’t. So we should vote for them at the election because they are helping the environment, yeah rite.

There is no real alternative to the car currently available;

THE BUS; We have busses, always late, crowded, noisey, inconvenient.

THE TRAIN; mmm, we al know what the are like, even worse than the bus. Always very late, never know when they are coming, always crowded, sometimes expensive, dodgy tracking system.

So the car is by far the best way to currently travel, you can go anywhere at anytime, with whoever you like, in comfort and be listening to you own music. You can even go wherever you want, picking your nose if you wish…… (N
ow that’s a bonus).

However high the price of petrol goes it will not deter people in the slightest, its just a way for the government to get more and more of our money, which I am not too sure what they are doing with it (NHS, TRANSPORT, EDUCATION are all currently in a shambles).

Until there is a real alternative, I don’t think there should be anywhere near as much tax as there currently is on our petrol, when there is a viable alternative, that doesn’t make the car so attractive, well lets think again.

***ACTUALY PRICE OF THE GOOD***

The actual price of petrol, without the government tax is actually very cheap. My uncle can fill his car up for £7 UK pounds, (He lives in Saudi Arabia) which does make me a little sick. Its not an expensive good, the government makes it one though.

***DEMAND/SUPPLY (Economic reasons)***

There is obviously high demand for petrol thorough out the world, but there is no way that petrol should ever cost as much as it does now. Much of the price is because of current taxing systems by the labour party, but some of it is because of production and quota reasons.

We, the western world are at the mercy of the OPEC (Oil Producing counties) which do decide to limit the amount that they product and send over to us. This does increase demand, and does keep our prices a little higher, I can understand that, they need to keep the oil price high enough so that they can make a decent wage and profit out of production. But this aspect of the petrol price does in no way make up for the massive price we are paying, but it’s another factor involved.

***SUMMARY***

In summary I defiantly think that petrol prices are far too high. There is no alternative to the car, so however high the price goes we will have to pay it, the car is a necessity. Without the cars and lorries in the UK the economy wouldn’t be what it. Surly if prices are cheaper
people may buy more, (Cheaper deliveries) which would be better for the economy.

GOVERNTMENT LISTEN UP… this petrol tax system isn’t working, the higher the price the more people will protest.

Thanks for you time, ***jamespugh***
