Advantages: None

Disadvantages: Penalises those who can't afford the ridiculous prices.

Putting petrol prices up and up is not the way to encourage people to use public transport when the system is completely unreliable. Who in their right minds enjoys getting on a bus or train at rush hour. When you've had a hard day at work, the last thing you want to do is stand up on a bus full of idiotic schoolkids and other miserable people. Buses are never on time and to be quite frank, unless they drop you at your front door, I'm not really interested. Trains are a joke and far more expensive than driving. Safety records are often questionable.

Petrol should not become so expensive that only well off people can afford to drive - higher education is on it's way back to becoming for the rich only, let's hope that we will not see this principle reflected in areas such as this.

I'm concerned about the environment, but I don't believe that putting petrol prices up solves the underlying problems. The main problem is that, given a choice, most people will choose privacy and the sanctity of your own car over a bus any day. Look at the traffic queues next time, see how many cars have just one person in it. We're all guilty of it. Roll on alternative and cheap alternative fuels!!

Are you aware that it is highly possible to have engines that run on nothing more pollutant than water? Even electricity, calor gas, and rubber bands? The question isn't when will we have less pollutant transport, but why aren't we allowed it?
