Totally selfish? (UK Petrol Prices)
Member Name: pan
Advantages: People taking action for themselves Disadvantages: Motivated by selfish reasons
I hate paying the inflated prices for petrol as much as anyone, but when I see the pickets and the demonstrations I can't help thinking that what we are seeing is an example of selfishness at work. Why is that when it comes to their own pockets people are willing to support mass demonstrations, pickets and direct action. When it comes to saving peoples jobs or communities what happens? Pickets and demonstrations are attacked in the press as the worst examples of anarchy and public support is minimal. When the miners were on strike against the Thatcher government the press and the police ensured that direct action was crushed. Now when its a matter of money you've got the police standing by and the press praising the demonstrators. Summary: |
