Advantages: A love fest
Disadvantages: Not nice if you are single
Valentines Day is something I have always celebrated in the comfort of my own home in recent years, as I have two children and it's not a date where relatives are queueing up and offering to babysit but I am not that bothered about going out anyway.
I have always thought that it's quite bad that restaurants and florists charge double the price compared to what they charge the rest of the year, but if they have a market for it then I guess why not... It just doesn't include me.
I think I should mention that we do all go out for a family meal every single Christmas Eve, and we DO knowingly pay double the normal price for a set menu, and so please do not think that I am lecturing about the over-commercialism of Valentines Day because I actually just think "each to their own".
This year was the one of the best valentines day I have ever had, and to anyone reading this, It would appear that we didn't actually do anything that exciting, and to be honest we actually didn't, we just had time together and enjoyed each others company which is what I loved.
At about seven o-clockish we had an indian takeaway, (for us and our kids as well), then we all watched "Harry Hill" and "Ant and Decs Saturday Night Takeaway".
The kids then went to bed, and so my hubby and I got snuggled on the settee.
I guess to keep in line with Valentines tradition we should have watched a romantic film, but they are not really my thing so we watched.... Die Hard 4!
Sounds mad I know, but this was my choice as it was a film I really wanted to see and obviously my other half was more than happy with the choice as well.
After watching this film.... We chatted for a bit, and had some wine, and it was just a lovely wind down evening.
We did spend some money this year, but far less than in some previous years as we are on a bit of a budget at the moment. We didn't buy each other cards this year, which wasn't part of some big protest, it's was just neither of us had got round to it.
I had bought him a tin of Just Brazils, his favourites (cost £1.99), and he bought me a silver bracelet chosen by my daughter but that she knew I really liked (cost £3.99) plus the Indian takeaway (£15).
To be honest, we would have got the takeaway regardless of it being valentines day, so there was only the fiver spent on pressies thats any different.
This isn't everyones idea of a loved up Valentines Day, but we really enjoyed it, and it was nice to just spend time together and chill out. : )
Summary: A lovely night in
