You need an Immigration Visa to visit the Dominican Republic like you do with most Caribbean countries, however this one proved a little more awkward.
They are actually purchasable through the travel agent, we were given an address to send of and apply for them from. They cost us a bout £10 each ? 1 per person. They are then sent to you address and you can fill them in, in your own time weeks before your flight.
Reason for this is you are not allowed to make a mistake, if a mistake is made it invalidates to Visa and you have to purchase another.
I would highly recommend purchasing them before hand, otherwise you have to get them when you land at Dominican Republic after your 8 hour flight, fight with 250 other people all trying to purchase their visas as well and then fill them in leaning against an uneven wall in an un-air-conditioned room. To be then checked by the mean looking, no English speaking immigration officials.

If you purchase before hand you just meander through pick up your bags and choose your seat on the air-conditioned coach!!!
