Advantages: solves the problem, cheap
Disadvantages: none
I have had my kitten since he was three months old, he is a pedigree British Shorthair. Ever since we had him he has had diarrhoea. We tried everything, he was in and out of the vet every five minutes. We awaited a blood test to determine what he might be allergic to. When the results were returned we found that he is allergic to the following: chicken, rice, lamb and duck. Which makes feeding a kitten quite difficult. In every can of cat food whatever flavour other proteins are added in. For example, a tuna cat food flavour could still contain proteins like chicken but would not be mentioned on the ingredients list.
We are now trying different foods to see which flavours and makes work best. Whilst having all these problems I would regularly check the catworld website to see if the experts could help me with information. This is a report from the website:
Diarrhoea
Dozens of different causes, and dozens of different possible remedies, diarrhoea is a difficult condition to prescribe for. Before thinking about homoeopathy, I usually suggest Slippery Elm, a herb with a long tradition of relieving diarrhoea symptoms. After considering the diet, and avoiding rich or fatty foods, and also avoiding milk for a while, there are a goodly number of homoeopathic remedies to consider, including:
Arson alb. ? ideal for diarrhoea with vomiting, as in food poisoning type gastroenteritis.
Merc sol. ? the average diarrhoea remedy where there is no known cause.
Aloe vera ? diarrhoea with flatulence and ?spluttering? stools.
Phosphorus ? small amounts of unpleasant smelling faeces.
Podophyllum ? watery, gushing diarrhoea.
I decided to try Slippery elm on my cat to see if it could help him too, and sure enough it works really well. Some days better than others but over all its a really good buy.
I bought it from my local pharmacy for about £2.30 for a tub of 50 capsules.
Below is the description of ingredients used in th
e Lifeplan make.
<Lifeplan Country Collection Slippery Elm capsules. These capsules contain only dried, powdered slippery elm bark in a hard capsule shell to maintain the potency. No additives of any kind are used in the manufacturing process. The bark is pure and entirely natural.>

This was an interesting read but I thought it was going to be about remedies for people who are allergic to cats, not cats who suffer from allergies! Also I think you need to add a warning at the top not to read on if you are eating!
