What a subject for people to express their point of views!
Many people will straight away say "YES", while others will say "WELL IT IS BUT...."
and others will say "NO".
When asked "Is wrestling fake" what do you think of?
Okay wrestlers stamp the floor when they punch someone. Its true, it happens, but notice how contact is made!!
The oponent IS hit, hard or soft, they are hit!!
Wrestling, in particular is not classified as a sport. It is sports entertainment!
The wrestlers are employed to perform to an audience.
Ahhhh, perform being the magic word I hear.
Lets take a "real" sport then.
Can anyone think of one?
Cricket - rigged with match fixing
Football - Drug abuse prelevant
Is any sport actually real? Basically the sportsmen are employed to entertain an audience.
Nothing more!
That is exactly what wrestling is.
As with every sport their are tradegies.
Wrestling is just the same.
When you get people die from a heart attack at 35 (Brian Pillman), people paralyzed (Droz), people actually die (Owen Hart)
it certainly makes you think!!
Wrestling is the same as any other sport.
There have to be restrictions on certain things.
In wrestling, obviously they cant beat six barrels of...I think you know what, out of each other, as they would be dead in 6 weeks.
The same applies to any other sport.
What I hear you say?
Okay lets take Formula 1.
Why are drivers limited to certain size engines? For safety.
If there were no restrictions, constructors would just stick a 25 litre 100 cylinder mega turbo engine in the car and beat anyone flat out.
Okay I think I overdone it with the engine, but you should get my point.
If I havent bought wrestling into a real sport now, I never will.
Similarities with other sports are relevant here!

- 11/08/01 Erm...a valiant attempt but an argument riddled with holes. Sure they touch each other, but then thats like watching a boxing match and seeing them stroke each other for 15 minutes and then one of them falling over. Contact is made...does it make it a sport? Sport must involve competition. If you are trying to tell me EVERY sporting event is rigged then I am going to call you an idiot. If you are not going to tell me that EVERY wrestling event is rigged then I am going to call you an idiot again(and probably worse). If the outcome is known before the event then its not a sport, its a stage play, nothing more nothing less. And your last point escapes me...the 'sport' of wrestling is about knocking your opponent senseless but safety reasons mean you can't do that? Then the 'sport' of wrestling doesn't exist because it bans its own goals surely... |
