In 1998, Wakefield gained promotion into Super League. Into the promised land (well, the top division anyway) for the first time in years, back where they belong. Since then being a fan has been one hell of a roller coaster ride, thats for sure. The last two years we've been a relegation dogfight, and I think most Wakefield fans have aged 10 years in the last two as well. What do we offer? Top flight rugby league - we sometimes play a blinder, and the best teams in the country come to visit us too. A good time - its all fairly entertaining, especially as a neutral spectator. Wakefield Trinity (the 'Wildcats' was added two years ago after a local poll which also threw up Wilderbeest and, not surprisingly, W*****s) are one of the oldest clubs in the Rugby League. Having slumped from their glory days of the 60s through some desperate times in the 80s, the club was looking strong again when it gained promotion to the Super League in 1998. A very creditable first season, in which champions St.Helens were beaten at Barnsley's Oakwell ground gave the fans much hope for the last campaign. Sadly, money raised its head again.
