Rating:

Advantages: Great mobility, footballing brain and eye for a pass or goal,

Disadvantages: Can be too aggressive

I don't know if i'm alone in thinking this but i'm still waiting for Rooney to reach the levels I really believe he can, although he is talked of just under the names of Kaka, Ronaldo and Messi, he has the talent to be talked of in their company and if he could improve further he could become one of if not the best player on the planet.

Born on the 24th October 1985 in Liverpool, Rooney was an Everton fan from an early age. Starting as a prodigy in the Everton youth team, Rooney was marked out as a future star from an early age.

Following some incredibly performances for a player of his age, including his debut goal at the age of 16 years and 360 days of age against Arsenal (A screamer of a shot from outside the box) Rooney announced himself as a player of immense potential.

Rooney was then the youngest player to score in a premiership game (Since surpassed by James Milner and James Vaughan) and then became the youngest player to play for England, in a game against Australia in February 2003.

In August 2004, Manchester united outbid Newcastle and bought Rooney for an alleged 25 million pounds. He showed his big game temperament by scoring a hat-trick of phenomenal skill against Feherbache on his United debut in the Champions League.

Rooney has grown up a lot at United and whilst we still see glimpses of his temper, these are much less than they used to be. Rooney has had to grow up with enormous press interest and has had some run-in's most notoriously the prostitute incident and the furore following his sending off for stamping against Portugal a few years ago.

Rooney is now a league champion and champions league winner and has the potential for many more trophies, he appears to have refound his modjo for England under the formidable Cappello and is playing much as we know he can.

While his goalscoring can never be considered prolific, as a second striker he is incredibly creative and a great foil. As a man he is growing up and retaliates much less than before. He is married now and his off-field profile is less aggressive and more relaxed.

Rooney can still improve, by scoring more goals, using his incredibly footballing brain to influence matches more and leading his team with maturity, he needs more goals this season as he's hardly been prolific, but you just know that when the big games come up there's every chance he'll pull a goal out of the hat.

Summary: He can still be anything he wants to be
