Advantages: The money is definitely coming my way
Disadvantages: I won't see a bit of it!
I've been intrigued how people intend to spend their Dooyoo earnings and other people seem nosy enough to read about it, so here we go - here's where my Dooyoo earnings are going.
I have to say that I am surprised how quickly I've reached my first cheque, having sent for it less than a month after joining the community, so thank you to all who have read and rated my reviews. I have been fortunate enough to gain four crowns and won 2500 bonus miles in the February competition. I've never won a competition in my life!! I was ecstatic.
The main reason for me joining Dooyoo was to raise some cash for my daughter's trip to Kosovo in the summer. She's 16 and is going on a mission with Girls Brigade - a brigade for girls, you've guessed it; a bit like Guides with more of a religious background to it.
The aim of GB is to seek, serve and follow Christ and all three of my daughters have been committed to their group since the age of 4/5. They've given 27 years worth of Tuesday evening commitment between them, which they are quite proud of, and actually, so am I. It takes quite a lot of determination to attend something that isn't always amazingly thrilling every Tuesday evening of your life (term time only). I know I can only manage three Wednesday night pilates classes, before thinking of a reason, an excuse or another more interesting activity so as not to go.
Well, the trip in July involves the distribution of aid, play leading and generally being a friend to many of the fatherless children that are in the community in Kosovo. She will have to leave Gatwick with a couple of other girls she's not met yet, and a leader, then spend a week in very basic accommodation fully endorsed by GB. The trip costs £600 plus transport to Gatwick and a training weekend in Glasgow in June.
So, I've now only £550 of the major cost to rustle up. Should be a breeze, right!
Wrong!
A couple of weeks ago, my wonderful car, Harry the Hearse (it's a black Diesel Mondeo TDCi Estate, hence his name) decided to start playing silly beggers and develop an energy deficiency. The glow plug light began flashing and there was no power when I needed it. This problem appeared intermittent at first. The first journey of the day was fine, but the return journey was painful.
So, I took him to the car doctors who diagnosed a turbo problem. New turbo unit was purchased from a turbo specialist establishment and fitted by the surgeon who diagnosed the problem. Cost so far £936. Aaaaaaargh!!!!
It gets worse though! The new turbo diesel unit isn't compatible with the Ford onboard computer so Harry will now have to be taken to an actual Ford specialist (why I didn't do this in the first place I'll never know) and a hefty bill no doubt will ensue.
So, dear Dooyooers, at the moment even the Kosovo trip is playing second fiddle to the saga of Harry the Hearse. Oh, woe is me.
I'm sure that it will all sort itself out though. I'm sure the problem with Harry will be a simple quick fix solution (humour me) and he will be back to full health in no time. That way, I'll be able to get eldest apuskiduski girl to Gatwick in July to catch the plane to take her to Kosovo to be with the kids who really need her help.
Thanks for reading and here's to all of you with an ailing vehicle at the moment. I share your pain!
HARRY UPDATE
Today, Friday 1st May, 2009, Harry might be released from hearse hospital, where he has been recovering well after a week in the ICU (Intensive Car Unit). He had furred up arteries and needed a bypass. Thanks to a fantastic, problem solving car surgeon, Harry will hopefully be reunited with his family after this debilitating illness which has lasted what seems like a lifetime.
The prognosis is good and Harry should live a happy healthy life as long as he reaches a speed of 70mph at least once a week. This will mean an unfortunate trip to Meadowhall, shopping, once a week to clear his turbo of all that filthy carbon that can build up in such a 'dirty' engine as his.
I can't tell you how happy I am that I will be reunited with my Harry. I can't tell you how peed off I am though at having to spend £1700 on him. That's a long way to a summer fortnight away for us five. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way of making the first car quack pay for a misdiagnosis! It stinks!
Summary: Harry, apuskiduski girl and I all say a big thanks to Dooyoo.
