Advantages: Keeps me busy!
Disadvantages: There is not enough hours in the day!
It's always interesting to see what others do with there Dooyoo earnings, so I thought I would explain what I do with mine. I have been a member of Dooyoo for just under two years since July 2007, and am fast approaching the £300 barrier with earnings, which given the time that I have been here isn't a bad achievement, I recently closed my Ciao.com account based on the grounds that the site is a mess and in my opinion not very well administered at all. Anyway, having just received my fifth cheque for £50 I have decided that this should go straight into the Bank and then be transferred to my savings account for any such instances of rainy days.
I still think that Dooyoo is by far the best place to write and review things, the continuous downslide of sites like Ciao, UK and Com, show what can actually go wrong if its not managed properly, again this has an effect on peoples earnings that can seriously damage a site's reputation if not addressed. The most encouraging thing about Dooyoo is you do get a decent rate for the review you put up; there are not many sites that do this now. The ratings as well as generous and not graded which in mu mind tells me that something is right and that all writers are treated as an equal.
Most of my earnings tend to get banked, but I have made sure that this is used in a manner that the money is available to pay that badly timed bill or even there to be used in emergency. So the bottom line is that I am saving at he moment, and that doesn't mean that I have cut back in anything, it just means that I spend what I need to spend money on and nothing extravagant!! Although I was thinking the other day that the more extravagant an item I but, then the more I can write about it and earn more. So you see I think it has this vicious circle that says you can't review something you don't actually buy!
I never expected to be any good at this when I started; I just wanted to do something that was different and use the Internet to make some pocket money, as well as exercise the ghosts of school, as I had an English Teacher that looking back tried to push me a little too hard. So now I tend to just write about what I feel I like to write about and see where it gets me. Guess I'm not the only one doing that at the moment with the way things are financially, I have noticed that a lot of people on the site are adding a lot of reviews as well. I personally think this is a good thing as you can see there writing stature improve as they go along and that for me was one of the great satisfactions I get from writing. After all we are in this for the money anyway (well I am!) so with everything that is written by me I tend to get quite possessive about the piece itself.
I will be honest, I have a gameplan, my other half and I are starting to make plans to move house, and figured that although the credit crunch or to give it its proper term - Financial Slowdown - that now is the best time to look around and see what is out there. Okay £50 isn't going to get much as a whole but that will definitely help out with the whole moving and legal process once we have found a place we like.
In the past I have used the Amazon vouchers as well, this is extremely handy around the Christmas period as the mail giving you the details of the e-vouchers is delivered very quickly by Dooyoo after the request has been submitted. Handy also that you can add the vouchers straight to you Amazon account and they are there for spending straight away, so it was off shopping I went! One thing I would love to see is the addition of transferring the money into a PayPal account, but this then this can open up other doors for problems and such that I have experienced on EBay, needless to say that that site is something I don't use anymore.
I also am a strong believer in what goes around and try to help others by returning the rate as much as I can. I welcome any sort of feedback on my pieces that I have posted on the site., but for me at the moment I am sitting in a sweet spot that I enjoy writing which I am proud off. I do tend to get a kick out of watching the "rateometer" increase when I post a piece. Mayday!
To give a breakdown at the time of writing I have 101 reviews, with a Crown awarded to 66 of them. My Dooyoo miles stand at 273085 or £273.08 and I think everyone who has ever rated one of my pieces as well. I certainly hope I have assisted in earning you some dosh as much as you have assisted me.
Summary: A little bit of money can go a long way!

- 11/06/09 Interesting to hear your thoughts on school. I teach English ( & other subjects) and was thinking the other day about how a school doo yoo type review site would really help kids improve their English skills. Incentives would work! |
