Advantages: Gives you the ability to find anything, anywhere!

Disadvantages: Could potentially lead to the universe imploding

Think of the man-power that could be saved and put to better use if the world and his dog didn't spend so much time looking for things they've lost. I wonder, how much time do you spend per week looking for your car keys, phone and purse? This week we misplaced a camera. We spent quite a lot of time looking around all the normal places it would be, then took our search further afield - to the car, and places we'd been recently. Then I went looking for the remote control and I found it (the camera, not the remote - still looking for that)!

What the world needs now, is a search function.

In the early days, those few talented people use divining rods as a means of finding things, primarily water. Water is useful, don't get me wrong, but the whole idea never really took off - maybe because there was no organised training. Whole hordes of people spend their life with at least one thing lost or missing. Imagine if there was a little gadget, maybe about the size of a pocket pc with a wee little keyboard that you could type in the name of your lost item and up would flash the location of said object! It would sure cut down on those strange smells emanating from the lost-and-found bin at train stations, and mean you could go to work with matching socks.

The only downside to this that i can foresee is if someone managed to lose their search gadget and by some freak occurance the gadget was used to find itself, and then of course there would be some horrendous recurring thingy, and the universe would implode.

Summary: An amazing time saving device, my bet is that google already have it patented!

Nice idea. Some actually exist already but you do need to put a tracker on the item and there's limited range but around the house is okay. Such items include key finders but there are ones with more than one tracker to put on other things.
