Advantages: Very useful stuff in my bag.

Disadvantages: Too much and often too heavy, some useless items here.

If there's one thing you should no about me it is that I never seem to travel light. What I never understood is how my boyfriend can sometimes travel with a wallet, keys and his phone. Honestly guys, how do you do it? For me there seems to be at least 10 various items that become essential travel items. Some of which are...

My purse ~ For pennies of course and also filled with way to many student cards for various places (When am I ever gonna' go ten pin bowling???). I also have way too many receipts in here. I mean you never know when a faults gonna' emerge with your Dazzle Dust eyeshadow >_<

My phone ~ Which should be dead right now the way I drunkenly dropped it last night but hey, it's more resilient than I thought.

Makeup Bag ~ Because really I'm an absolute hag... Everything from loose powder to lipstick.

IPOD ~ Because music means so much to me. I don't know how I could live without it. Also great for drowning out the sound of Edinburgh traffic and people with annoying voices on trains/buses.

Kleenex Balsam Tissues ~ You know those times when you've entered a toilet, taken a dump and found there were no tissues? Hankies are a saviour even if you don't have a runny nose.

Smints ~ You never know when you'll come across one of those people who comes way too close to your face when you speak to them. Also, you never know when you might be snogged.

Keys ~ Otherwise you're a homeless bunny...

A pen ~ You never know when you may run into famous people in Edinburgh - It hasn't really happened yet (not even during the festival). I reckon I'm just unlucky, blind or they have annoyingly good disguises. I'm hoping it will be David Tennant or Billy Boyd...

A book ~ Ok, probably not essential but I always carry a book. It is either something academic for my history course or some personal reading. At the moment it contains a very cheery contemporary account of being unemployed in the inter-war period ('I was one of the unemployed') and a gorey vampire book called 'Let the Right One In'.

My Diary ~ Just for being in grip with my schedule and for storing important details. I have one of those large page a day ones which is probably kinda' silly because I'm probably not THAT busy. I do have an obsession with keeping reminders though. I can be very scatterbrained sometimes.

An umbrella ~ I live in Scotland so it's easy to understand why...

A bottle of water ~ To stave off dehydration.

Gloves ~ 'Cause it is chilly.

Uni work of some kind.

And things that I probably don't need to carry...

Camera ~ I went out yesterday and have just discovered some drunken pics that will certainly not be going on facebook >_< I suppose this would be handy for the possible Boyd or Tennant picture op.

I do know a girl who carries a lot more than me. She keeps plasters and a wee bottle of hand sanitiser amongst other things. Now she's a person who you can depend upon in a crisis. Even so, I really do wish I was Mary Poppins with her tardis-style bag. My bag carries everything that it important to my life and I can only imagine how traumatising it would be to be mugged and have this bag taken off me. Plus I have two very nice bags. A 'Dickies' backpack which is black and has pink, purple, white and blue flower-like shapes on it and a purple plaid shoulder bag from H & M.
I am supposed to be going to America to work at a kid's camp this summer and if you think I am somewhat modest in the handbag/backpack front then you should see how much I need (want!) to take when I travel abroad. I do not fear I will go over the baggage weight limit on the plane - I know I will! >_<

Summary: Sometimes I really need to travel lighter.
