Advantages: All My Junk In One Place

Disadvantages: Get's Soooo Messy!!!!

Where would we be without our trusty handbags. I would certainly be completely lost without mine. It scares me sometimes how messy it gets. When I give it its annual clearout I always discover the most weird and wonderful things which have been accumulated, a collection of items that i would be ashamed to admit too. I personally blame a six year old son for most of the extra additions. My husband actually bought me my bag for Christmas last year. It is a Radley (the only ever real designer version of a hand bag I have ever owned). Much to my sheer and utter delight. I even managed to keep it pristine for a good couple of months until the inevitable life takes over. So here are the top 10 items that are currently in my bag. Well the ones that I will happily admit to anyway!!!!

Purse

A matching Radley purse to go with the bag I know I am boasting now. Where would I be without this. If I ever lost or had this stolen I would be absolutely stuck. It has cash, cards, work ID, drivers licence etc. I love it though as it is a purse with two zip compartments and a coin area and enough slots for all my cards. Best purse I've ever owned. Plus it has a cute dog on it. What more could you ask for.

Mini cosmetic bag

Would be lost without this as well. Small dotty make-up bag which contains a pressed powder, eyshadow mini in three shades, lip-liner, mini mascara and eyeliner. Of course it comes with a small mirror. You never know when you might need the help of these items so they remain firmly placed here, for those emergency touch-ups.

Nivea Lip Balm

I suffer from particularly dry lips and as I work in a relatively hot environment as well as a result I am constantly requiring a balm or cream to apply at least every couple of hours or so. This is the velvet rose edition and smells like those old fashioned candy lip-sticks you used to get as a kid. I actually think it is rather pleasant myself. In addition it leaves lips feeling hydrated and moisturised. Couldn't live without this product.

House keys

I attach all my keys to the same bunch ( I know I am a law unto myself). Again if I lost them I would be unable to drive, get into the house, Enter my garage or be able to put my bins out!!! I fortunately have up to this day never ever lost a set of keys yet. Just to make extra sure I am one of those sad people who has a whistling keyring attached to them. So if in a hurry in the morning and have not put them in my bag as usual I can locate my keys by a series of beeps to my whistles. I know sad!!!!!!

Packet of Sweets For Child and Me

At present it is Haribo cola bottles. You never know as a mummy when you will require an emergency sweetie. Unfortunately children have a bit of a habit of crying at the most inconvenient of times. A little bribery and corruption goes a long way to resolving this. (I am a good mum really - honest!!!). I also have a packet of Extra chewing gum for obvious reasons.

Pocket Face Mask

As a nurse you never know when you will have to administer first aid. I always carry around this mini pocket mask which is encompassed in a sturdy plastic clam-shell just in case of emergency. It is for administering CPR and performs a barrier between yourself and the person when performing mouth-to-mouth rescusitation so very safe and effective in protecting both of you. (Thankfully I have not had to use it yet - lasts 3 years before needing replaced). I would recommend that everyone carries one of these in their bags.

Perfume

I always have a 30ml bottle of perfume in my bag. At present it is Dolce and Gabbanna light blue. I remember now that this mini size came free with a full 100ml bottle purchased at Christmas time. It is very light and fresh smelling and I would recommend it to all. Suitable for all ages and can be used as an everyday perfume or for in the evenings. Its that versatile. I notice actually that it is almost done so will have to purchase another one soon!!!! I might actually go mad and select an entirely different perfume this time!!!!

Hairbrush

The love of my life. My Mason Pearson hairbrush. This is quite large and chunky however I would be lost without it. However if you have exceptionally thick hair like mine I would definitely recommend that you invest in one of these. It glides through my unruley hair with ease leaving it soft and shiny and tangle free. I have always owned one of these brushes and quite frankly would recommend it to all. They are initially expensive however they last for years.

Pen and Pencil and Notebook Set

So handy, you never know when you will require a pen or pencil, or more to the point when other people ask if they can borrow one from you. Why is it that men always assume women carry a pen!!! Also it's good to have a notebook too as I am always getting invited to things verbally and with a memory usually like a sieve I would forget to turn up if I didn't write everything down.

Mobile

I would be completely and utterly lost without my mobile phone like most people on the planet also. I really take my hat off to those people who have never owned one of these and never will. Unfortunately however it is a lifeline for me to be able to stay in touch with my family and keep track of my sons whereabouts. I tend to use the email and IM functions the most along with internet browsing in my breaks. Keeps the boredom at bay. Gosh what did we do before the world domination of these little gems. (I don't irritate other people with this either).

So there we have it the main items in my bag, I left out the fluff, odd coins, safety pins, plasters, comb, single sticks of chewing gum, buttons, both chocolate and from clothing (Yuck my sons doing I think). Tape measure. Leaf!!!! Pictures drawn by my six year old, the odd bill, empty wrappers and needle and thread. Mary Poppins doesn't' get a look in apart from the umbrella/coat stand of course. Even I'm not that ambitious.
