What's In Your Bag? |

Advantages: Fun to write
Disadvantages: Will anyone actually read it?
Today's bag is a large, cream-coloured, flowery canvas 12-euro jobby that I picked up in a Spanish chain-store called 'Sfera' when I was on holiday a few weeks ago. Its clothes are a bit too teenybopper-orientated for my taste, but they do a nice line in cheap and cheerful accessories which look more expensive than they really are. I have a big chunky amber-colored ring from Sfera that I love and I've given people bracelets and scarves from there that also went down well.
Anyway, being a summery bag, it doesn't have a zip fastening, which means I have to be careful in crowds and make sure nothing falls out, but as it's pretty large I can just sling it over my shoulder and hold it against my body with my arm, if you catch my drift. As it happens, I rarely encounter crowds when going to and from work as I don't do 9-5.
I emptied my new bag after my hols, so this is the pared-down, minimalist version of what I lug around with me on an average working day (no reading material as I walk to the office):
**** Mobile ****
I pride myself on having the oldest mobile of anyone I know - it's vintage, darling. I only use it for the odd text and free calls to my beau, anyway. Most importantly, it functions as an alarm clock as I have to wake up before sunrise most days and this phone's ring could raise the dead.
**** Purse ****
Purple leather with brass trimmings and the odd brass farthing. Purchased in Cheltenham. I only usually carry one bank card and hardly any cash, because inside me there's a shopaholic screaming to get out. I also have a shoe-shop bonus card and a shoe-repairs bonus card in there.
**** A pair of lilac Italian leather shoes with wooden heels ****
Told you it was a big bag! These are the prettiest, most expensive and most uncomfortable shoes I own and I don't know whether to sell them as I've only managed to wear them twice.
**** A slimline work diary that my cousin gave me for Christmas ****
I used to carry a filofax-type thing but my bag got to heavy and something had to give.
**** A pack of 'panuelos' tissues ****
I had a horrible cold in Spain! It was just as swine flu broke, so I found it very easy to get a seat to myself on public transport.
**** Some overtime sheets from work ****
I need to fill these in tonight....
**** Spare pair of (skin-coloured) tights ****
Because it wouldn't do to blind anyone with my dazzlingly white legs.
**** Turquiose umbrella ****
Being a Girl Guide taught me to always be prepared (Random trivia: girl guide in Spanish is 'el boyscout', or so my teacher tells me!)
**** Glasses ****
Grrrr, hate them. I've had them a year and they make me feel like a granny.
**** Two sets of keys ****
Mine and my boyfriend's, with a Santiago de Compostela keyring. Hoping to do the walk ourselves one day.
**** Mascara, eyeliner, concealer and perfume ****
Pointless really as I never get round to reapplying them at work....
**** Orion Walking Style II pedometer ****
The most important item! It's an expensive one that I can clip into the inside pocket of my bag and it still counts my steps, distance walked, aerobic steps and calories burned - for the past 7 days. (Random trivia 2: In Spanish if you said 'el pedometer' it would actually mean 'fartometer'. I'm speaking from experience here).
Summary: Stuff and nonsense
