Advantages: I get by with just the basics most of the time
Disadvantages: I have a lot of other expensive products just SITTING there that haven't made it to "the bag"!
Whoever suggested this category - good call! I love being nosy and seeing what other people like.
In everyday situations, I don't really keep my makeup in a bag. I have it neatly organised into one of those mini chests of drawers from Ikea, with one drawer for eyes, one for face, etc etc. Then I decided that the lazy girl in me would prefer to have everyday turn-to products in one bag, rather than having to walk about three steps from my mirror and rummage around in the drawers. So this review is the contents of that bag, and basically anything else I would throw in were I to go away for a few days and actually carry my products in a bag.
The bag: This is a new one I've just started using a few weeks ago and ADORE. It's made by Nick and Nora, and is a light blue vinyl-covered bag with a really cute owl print. The zipper pull is shaped like an owl and it has two handles at the top so it's sort of a mini bowling bag shape. It came with a matching mirror in a pouch and a set of brushes, and cost me like £7 at TK Maxx. Such a great buy!
Inside we have:
Face:
*For everyday foundation I use mineral makeup from an Etsy seller called theallnaturalface. I ordered a sampler and am working my way through the shades to find my perfect match (going on holiday halfway through this experiment and getting tanned didn't help!), but I really love this foundation. I only really use a very light coverage for redness near my nose and chin and to even things out.
*Benefit's Realness of Concealness set, although it's missing the Lip Plump which I have no use for and gave to my mum. I use Boi-ing under my eyes everyday, and Lemon Aid saves me bringing along another eye primer if I want to use shadows. High Beam is a great little product, although with my current blush I don't find much use for it any more. I occasionally use Ooh La Lift if I remember when doing my skincare routine.
*Elf's All Over Cover Stick for blemishes, although now the shade (which was PERFECT) is too pale. It's really long-lasting and easy to blend using a brush for such a cheap product.
*Three concealer samples in plastic baggies - yellow for undereyes, greenish white to counteract redness and one in a more natural skin tone. Got these with my foundation samples and use these from time to time, but probably wont order a full size.
*Three blushes - full size Glow from theallnaturalface again, a really great natural-looking blush which really makes me look wide awake and healthy; Pout's Pearly Queen, more of a winter blush really for when I have lighter skin; Boots 17 in Plum Puff, a nice shade on me but doesn't last as I'd like.
*Benefit's 10 contour for making the most of my tan, a bronzer and highlight in one. I threw it in here so I'd use it more often (it was expensive after all) and I'm actually growing to really like it. Great for being lazy!
Eyes:
*Loreal Telescopic Mascara - I cannot speak highly enough about this product. Definitely my Holy Grail eye product.
*Three eye liners - Urban Decay 24/7 in Zero (black), Gosh Velvet Touch liner in Silver Screen (for brightening the corners of my eyes) and a Pout pencil in Eye Crave You.
*A couple of MAC pigment samples - for if I actually feel like doing something with my eyes, which is doubtful. Mostly neutral shades (Melon and Vanilla being favourites).
Lips:
*Any moisturising lip balm - currently using a Neutrogena one with SPF.
*A Pout lipgloss.
Brushes and tools:
*Tweezers
*Flat mini kabuki for foundation
*Dome-shaped TEENY TINY mini kabuki I like for blush
*Concealer brush
*Eyebrow/lash comb
*Elf eyeshadow brush
So that's it, my everyday makeup items that I actually use. Now I look at my drawers of brightly-coloured, adorably-packaged products and I'm a bit ashamed I spent so much on them, because it's so rare that I'll do anything other than "troubleshoot" my face and throw on a bit of mascara. Oh well, everyone needs a hobby!
Summary: I need to reevaluate how necessary things are before purchasing..this has been an eyeopener!
