Advantages: Change the dieing world of music

Disadvantages: Might invest more money than I'll make, but it's the mission that counts

If I won the lottery I'd become a rock star, on my own terms. I'd build a ridiculously expensive home studio, buy the hottest guitars and amplifiers on the planet, and hire the best studio musicians money can buy. I'd start my own record label, distribution company, marketing and PR company, as well as booking service. It would all basically be one big empire. Of course I would have plans for my own career, but I would also sign artists I believe in.

The current music scene is oversaturated because the barriers to entry are so low. Instruments are cheap, so are home recording setups, and anyone can set up a Myspace account within minutes. People also appreciate the value of music less because it can all be obtained for free (although illegally) online. Record labels in turn make less money, which makes them afraid of investing money in any talent that is different or daring. They want to invest in whatever sounds like the artists that are currently selling, because they think that's a more secure investment. It all leads to a poorer musical scene and less daring and interesting music to enjoy for all of us.

I do realize lottery prizes are of limited size, but for the sake of this example, I'll assume I'd have no economical worries. My mission would be to give daring, different, interesting, and plain good music a chance, not only a chance, but the financial backing and marketing power driving the current pop scene of recycled ideas and fear of being too different.

The current world of music is sick. It's dieing from boredom. If I won the lottery, I'd inject some life back into it!

I might not earn money doing it, but if I could afford to lose a lot of it, I sure could stir up some life ;)

Summary: If I won the lottery, I would be a rock star on my own terms!

your right, you would need a blank cheque to fund these wishes, not just a lottery win!
