What's your view on the new TV football deals?

Description: Sports: Football / Sport Topic: Football Issues

Newest Review: ... Sky Sports or BBC and sometimes they are shown live on both and during the World Cup and the European Championships are shown on ITV aswell. And Channel Four and Channel Five show a lot of foreign football from the likes of Holland, Italy, Argentina and United States. This can only be a good thing for Television Football in this country. I have recently bought a Sagem freeview box that comes ... more

Ever since the Premiership began in 1992 Sky have been the major player in Live Football on TV and I have welcomed that because they after all paid all that money to secure the rights to show these live games and that should be the end of that but apparently people think they should be able to affect something that they are not even part of like people who complain that there isnt enough competition to Sky. Well there hasnt been because Sky are the best and remember what happened with ITV Digital who promised to compete with Sky's premiership coverage. You get the all of the England games on either Sky Sports or BBC and sometimes they are shown live on both ...  Read the complete review

Before I go on about football, I want to take the chance to remember a great patriot that died this weekend. Their contribution and efforts to the country will be greatly missed to us all. Lets have a minutes silence for Barry Took, Ladies and Gentleman.Without this warrior of filler TV would never have been gifted with?whoops ive lost my trousers vicar? and of course, Points of View!. Its been a big blow this week for the Nationwide clubs in general with the bleak news of the loss of fifty percent of their revenues. For perspective Nationwide One candidates Liecester City has been a double whammy with the loss of the Queen Mum who was going to replace ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review What's your view on the new TV football deals?: £100 a match............. (863 words)

.....could be how much we pay if the current system continues! It's bloody ridiculous if you ask me. The old deals were bad enough, but the new ones? What is the world coming to when the chances are we might not even be able to watch the next world cup? And then there is the whole pay-per-view fiasco with digital TV. Recently I have become much less interested in football. The reason I have come up with is a lack of interest in watching results flash up on Grandstand on a Saturday afternoon. It might just be me, but it isn't as fun seeing a few numbers flash up on a screen as it seeing the match. I could of course, listen to the radio, but ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Why I am not looking forward to this season (916 words)

Having studied the schedules for football coverage next season I came away very disappointed. Firstly I would like to say that I do not believe that anyone covers football as well as SKY. They have had exclusive rights to almost all football for the past 10 years and have perfected its presentation. The BBC always do a good job but in my opinion ITV and channel 5 have always been a shambles. The news that ITV was getting premiership highlights, nationwide division one and all european cup matches took all my enthusiasm away from the coming season. I believe there are a few key areas in which football will suffer as a result. 1. The Premiership highlights ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review What's your view on the new TV football deals?: There will be no World Cup in 2002...at least in Britain (517 words)

It has been reported today, that unless we are willing to travel to Japan or South Korea in 2002, we are unlikely to see any World Cup matches, as the BBC and ITV have refused to pay the amount requested to secure the broadcasting rights for the matches from the tournament. The rights are owned by a media company from Germany called Kirch Sport, and they have put the price of £175 million on the rights, and in typical BBC manner, they have bid a paltry £50 million, as they believe the asking price is too high. No problem you think, as I am sure SKY will match the bid, and Kirch are more than happy to deal with SKY as they believe they are the best company to ...  Read the complete review
