---MALU's Blurb--- "this is my christmas prezzie for you, my dears, i´ve posted it now so that you can complete it. i can give you only the first half, the second half must come from you. do it before christmas day so that you can fill your coffers and have some dosh for your next holiday! another reason for posting it before christmas is that i want to read some of your answers; i`ll be away during the festive season on an excursion for travel guides, expenses covered by dooyoo.* this challenge does not compete or interfere with the official guides` challenges. * only kidding" _______________________________ We all like these challenges don't we? Not too difficult to write but seem to pick up quite a few reads and in the run up to Christmas the extra cash can't hurt! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year - wherever you are! _______________________________ q: how many times a year do you travel? a: being based in a different country to my family and the friends with whom I grew up, I have found myself travelling back and forwards to England quite frequently for weddings of close friends or family. My baby brother got married in June so I was back for 10 days then. I also travel for work once or twice a year - again to England which is convenient. Just the once this year. Add in a bit of internal travel - long weekends etc and I suppose its 3 or 4 times a year. _______________________________ q: for how long do you go away? a: I'm a bit limited really as I only have a certain number of holiday days per year. Generally if I'm going back to the UK I try to make it short but sweet - 4 or 5 days during which I don't sleep too much! Other holidays would tend to be a week's break here and there or a long weekend. _______________________________ q: do you stay in your home country or do you go
abroad? a: Bit of a mix. I find myself going abroad to what used to be my home country (England) - but this isn't much of a holiday. In recent years I've met up with family and friends in neutral destinations such as Turkey and Spain. For a weekend break I'd tend to stay close to home. _______________________________ Q: Do you organise your holidays yourself or do you go to a travel agency? A: Bit of a mixture - the trips I did to Turkey and Spain were through a travel agent but if its internal travel I tend to go online to get a last minute deal. _______________________________ Q: Do you prepare your holidays in advance by reading guide books and studying maps? A: Not really - I'm a bit of a lazy bum quite frankly - as long as there is a pool and preferably a beach I'm happy - usually just up for R'n'R _______________________________ Q: Do you travel alone/with family or friends/with an organised group? A. I like to travel with friends. The problem is that they keep on getting married off so I keep on losing my travel partners. My little bro and I did a few holidays together but now that he's married 3 is definitely a crowd! Not into organised groups - 1 or 2 friends is just right! ______________________________ Q: Do you prefer the sea / mountains / plains / cities as destinations? A: I don't really have a preference. If it strikes me as an interesting place to visit then I'm definitely up for it. __________________________________ Q: Do you mainly relax or are you an active holidayer? A: Would depend. I'm generally into relaxing by the pool with a book; maybe do a spot of diving if I get the chance. If I'm with more active types however I'm also up for touring around a bit - certainly seeing a bit of the country you're visiting is to be recommended. ____________________
______________ Q: If you go abroad do you learn at least some words of the foreign language? A: I was shocked in Spain to learn that the word for beer is not biere, Bira or some variation thereof! Eventually we managed to find a place where "2 pints and a packet of crisps" was understood! I know this makes me sound a bit jingoistic but is general, English is so pervasive that its hard to find somewhere that the people don't speak it. I have usually found that the moment I break into my poor French or German, they tend to revert to English in any case so although I do like to make the effort I find its usually not worth it other than a few phrases for basic politeness. _________________________________ Q: Are you interested in the cuisine of a foreign country? A: I would be as I do enjoy my food BUT being Jewish I only eat kosher food so it does present a major problem which I don't compromise on. _________________________________ Q: Which means of transportation do you prefer? A: I fly. Internally I would probably choose to drive as its a small country but overseas I have no choice but to fly. _________________________________ Q: What kind of luggage do you take with you? Have you got problems packing? Do you tend to take too many / too few things with you? A: I take a backpack with the minimum amount of clothes. I have become an expert at packing and very rarely have too much or too little. If I'm travelling to visit family in the UK I am fortunate in that my brother is the same size as me so I borrow his smart shirts and a suit if its for an occasion. _________________________________ Q: Do you send picture postcards to your family and friends? A: No - don't bother as I'm home before they arrive. Email and cheap telephone calls mean that writing has gone out of the window for me. Hope you've enjoyed t
hat - if you leave me a comment I'll come and read yours too!

pranapana - 09/12/03 hi Gillyman,
Interesting review. Always wanted to live in europe/uk for a while, just so I could travel to exotic places on the weekend! Right now would take days to get there...
Was wondering if you could please re-rate a review I wrote a year ago on here which I've updated. Thanks for leaving a comment there in the first place!
Cheers, Renee (aka pranapana) |
