Advantages: Great holidays
Disadvantages: Holidays cost money
I know I’m a bit late writing my review for MALU’s travel challenge because everyone seems to of written theirs around Christmas time, but better late than never, eh? I’ve been away from the Christmas and New Year period and have made a New Years resolution – that I will come back here and write reviews more often… _______________________________ q: how many times a year do you travel? a: I go to Majorca about three times a year, because I am a student and get a lot of free holiday time. The only problem is that during this time, the prices of holiday’s soars up. I’d rather go in term time but I’d miss out on too much work! _______________________________ q: for how long do you go away? a: In the Summer, I have seven weeks off of school and so I have quite a lot of time to play with. I usually go away to Majorca for between two and three weeks, because the weather is gorgeous and once I get out there, I know that I won’t want to come back! During the year we might go for the odd weekend to Belgium or France. _______________________________ q: do you stay in your home country or do you go abroad? a: Like I said before, I almost always go to Majorca, because I am so used to it out there – know my way around and know the people. It’s almost like being at home, because the locals say hello to you in the mornings and you know where the best places to go are. A long time ago, we used to go caravaning quite a bit, but as I got older, this idea went away. I chose to stay at home, whilst my parents went away. Then they soon got fed up of it – having to pack their stuff on a Friday night and come home on the Sunday. _______________________________ Q: Do you organise your holidays yourself or do you go to a travel agency? A: I always book direct. First I book the flight by searching around on the net for the be
st deal (I have recently bought a return ticket to Majorca for only £40, including tax)! After booking the flight ticket, I e-mail the hotel that I wish to stay in directly, so that they know the dates of my journey. They then reply to me confirming that they have the rooms available for half board etc. and then all that’s left for me to do is pack my suitcase! _______________________________ Q: Do you prepare your holidays in advance by reading guide books and studying maps? A: Not really. I know the place I want to go, so there seems no need. But, if in the future I choose to go somewhere else, then I think I’d do a bit of research before I went, to see what parts of the country were the best and find out about places of interest. In the past I have been to Ayia Napa in Cyprus and Ibiza and they weren’t as good as Majorca, which is why I tend to stick to the same place. _______________________________ Q: Do you travel alone/with family or friends/with an organised group? A. I usually travel with my parents, but over New Year, I went with my boyfriend also. Next Summer I plan to rent out an apartment for the whole of the Summer holidays with a group of friends. ______________________________ Q: Do you prefer the sea / mountains / plains / cities as destinations? A: Definitely the cities and beach. I am not a huge fan of sightseeing, because I just get bored. I am the sort of person who is happy lounging around on the beach with sun tan lotion in one hand and a delicious cocktail in the other. __________________________________ Q: Do you mainly relax or are you an active holidayer? A: Relax………….Zzzzzzzzzzzzz 230;…. __________________________________ Q: If you go abroad do you learn at least some words of the foreign language? A: Not really. But most of the places that I visit, speak English anyw
ay. _________________________________ Q: Are you interested in the cuisine of a foreign country? A: I’d love to go to Italy because some of my favourite foods come from there. Next year I am hoping to take my boyfriend to the Ferrari factory, and will get the chance to eat lots of pasta, ice-cream and pizza (not all at once though!) _________________________________ Q: Which means of transportation do you prefer? A: When I’m on holiday I usually use taxi’s to go to any places further than a few miles away. If it isn’t a long walk and the weather is good, then I don’t mind walking, _________________________________ Q: What kind of luggage do you take with you? Have you got problems packing? Do you tend to take too many / too few things with you? A: I always take too much with me! One year I even remember there being a ‘Heavy’ sticker stuck on my suitcase because it was overweight. The worst feeling in the world is when you get that sticker on the way out, because you think to yourself ‘what on earth is my suitcase going to weigh on the way back?’. We usually buy a few bottles of booze and packs of fags for friends and family, so this adds extra weight on! Also the shoes and leather goods are cheap in Majorca, so we’re quite partial to bringing some of those items back with us. As for packing….I always start off with a massive suitcase and think ‘I’ll have plenty of room’…but then I remember extra things that I wouldn’t of thought of taking if I couldn’t fit them in, and those go in too. Also, I prepare for every weather condition. For instance, even if we are going to Majorca in the Summer and the weather is obviously predicted to be hot, then I will take clothing for cold weather as well, just incase. Silly, ain’t I? _________________________________ Q: Do you send picture p
ostcards to your family and friends? A: Well, I used to a long time ago to the people that used to send me picture postcards when they went away. But I think that the postcard industry is fading out nowadays, because of new technology like the mobile phone. When you’re relaxing around the pool in Majorca, you usually hear ‘beep beep’ of people receiving text messages from people back home.
