Sylvain Wiltord is by far the most under-rated player Arsenal possess. He has deft skills, frightening pace and a very high work rate to match. The underlying reason behind his going seemingly un-noticed is the fact that he is eclipsed by the big names at the club such as Thierry Henry (possibly the greatest striker in the world) and Dennis Bergkamp (who can only be described as a legend in the making). It so happens that such big personalities are also competing for Wiltord's position of striker. He is a really good player and he plays for a good team that are currently in the premiership. He has got a left leg and a right leg and so he is able to use both his right foot and his left foot when he plays football. He must know what he is doing because if he didn’t, he wouldn’t be playing football. He can also use his head, which is something not many people can say because if they use their head, it hurts them and they start crying and it becomes a disadvantage to them in the match. I think this player will have a good season and I hope he scores a lot of goals because he is probably in my dream team. ... Read the complete review

I don't rate Wiltord as a quality striker... yet. He certainly didn't live up to my expectations after seeing him score the goal in the World Cup final. The only times he promised last season were in the FA Cup games. He appears to lack confidence, and is definitely not Arsene Wenger's first choice striker as the world class Henry as well as Bergkamp lie far ahead of him. Wenger usually has an eye for talent and i can't say there are that many wasters in the French national team (Frank Leboeuf excluded), so i'll have to trust that he'll develop into a good player. He still has youth on his side and should drain confidence ... Read the complete review

Sylvian Wiltord, in my opinion, is Arsenal's version of Liverpool's 21 year old striker, Emile Heskey. Wiltord scored his 10th goal of the season today as Arsenal beat Manchester City 4-0 at Maine Road, and Wiltord was outstanding. As people may have seen through Arsenal's coverage on television, Wiltord has nearly every aspect of the game under control. One thing he lacks however is consistency... Or does he? Having watched Wiltord over 20 times this season, he has the pace to get passed the best. Although not as quick at his French team-mate, Thierry Henry, Wiltord is quicker than the average Premiership player. ... Read the complete review

I have has backed French World Cup winner Sylvain Wiltord to win over his Highbury doubters - provided he is given a chance to prove himself in the Arsenal line-up. However, despite the absence of Dennis Bergkamp, it seems the £13 million striker will not get that chance in Lyon on Tuesday night. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger seems set to pick Nwankwo Kanu to fill the gap up front in the Champions League clash. Wiltord has scored only six times since his move from Bordeaux last summer but I believe it is only a matter of time until he captures the imagination of the English public.
