Everyone has an Achilles heel and I have two. In work, the younger members of staff used to have a bit of a go at me because of my penchant for name dropping - usually minor celebrities who I’d been to school with, bumped into on holiday or met at football matches. I remember they once compiled a list of ‘not particularly famous people Merv’s met’ which got up to about 53 till we all got bored with it. Still it was a laugh while it lasted and brightened up the tea breaks for a couple of weeks. The second failing is my love of golf, which is not allied to any ability at the game. Ian Woosnam is the best golfer to come out of Wales, and probably one of the best sportsmen to ever come from the green green grass of Wales. Woosnam played in countless Ryder Cups and won his fair share of majors, although in the last few years he has gone downhill abit due to a severe back problem, but he is now beginning to come back and is starting to play something like the old Ian Woosnam. Ian Woosnam uses a unique way to practice his putting, not like any ordinary PGA tour player who use a plain simple putting green, oh no, Ian Woosnam uses the snooker table which is in the games room of his house.
