Now there is no better way to relax than to sit doen infront of the television with a cup of tea and the snooker on. Now because i am ay college and i work afterwards i dont get a lot of time to relax, but i have made exceptions for watching the snooker. Just incase you do not know what the game of snooker is i will explain: Firstly the idea of the game is to pot as many balls as you can a to gain more points than the opponent. The player that is playing at the times shot is known as a "break" so for exammple if the player potted red, black, red, black, red then he would score 17 points. Then the opponent would have to try and score more. Now snooker is more of a tactical game so there is a lot of safety shots where the player puts the cue ball (the white one) behind the colours at the top end of the table to stop the other player having an easy shot at a red. OK so you should have the basics to snooker there so i will now explain how the points are scored. Each colour has its own amounts of points so here they are: Red - 1 point Yellow - 2 points Green - 3 points Brown - 4 points Blue - 5 points Pink - 6 points Black - 7 points The maximum break in snooker is 147 this is where the player gets balck red, black red all of the way through the match. At the crucible aver the last week or so the standard of snooker has been absolutely brilliant. The most impressive player in my opinion is stuck between two players. These two players are: 1) Ronnie O Sullivan 2) Joe Swail This two players have been amazing, they have been an inspiration to me and have made me want to learn how to play snooker to a higher standard. When they strike the cue ball they hit the ball that they are trying to hit perfectly and they are always thinking about the positioning for their next pot. The two players have a very different strategy Ronnie tends to look at one shot the
n hit it quite quickly, whereas Joe tends to think strategically about the shot that he is going to play. These are very different ways but the way in which they are both playing it wouldnt suprise me to see them in the final!! I lok forward to your comments and i also look forward to the Final!! Stuart

- 05/05/01 I don't go too much on Ronnie, he tends to get a bit too cocky when he starts playing left handed, nice op. |

- 04/05/01 Ronnie is certainly looking good this year - I wonder if he'll win it? At the moment it looks like he'll beat Joe Swail, but who he'll meet in the final is difficult to answer. Both John Higgins and Matthew Stevens are playing near the top of their game this tournament. It should be close! |
