Advantages: None-except Josph Cotton
Disadvantages: Poor acting and storyline , dodgy sets and scenery , funny but not intentionally
I read a couple of reviews in this category and it reminded me of the worst film I have ever seen . Now it must have been bad as it still sticks out in my memory of the million and one films I must have seen over the years ( slight exagerration I guess ), and I saw it in 1972 at our local cinema .
Hubby and I , although he was the boyfriend then went to the flicks to see a current film . Strange thing is I can’t remember what the main feature was but I can remember the B movie . At that time each Film had a supporting one , usually of a lesser standard and hence called the ‘B’ movie . Ronald Reagan was a famous ‘B’ movie actor before becoming a ‘B’ class president of the U.S.A. Oops sorry for the sarcasm .
So , as I know you’re all dying to know what this atrocious film was called I will put you out of your misery . It was The White Comanche made in 1967 , in full colour , and the lead role , or two, was played by William Shatner . I say role or two as he played twin brothers . I can’t remember too much of the plot I’m afraid but basically the film was about the struggle between these two characters .The twins who are half white and half Comanche have been brought up in different surroundings . One as an Indian and one as a white American . The film also starred an aged Joseph Cotton who must have been appalled when he saw the final cut .
William Shatner in case you are not aware played James T Kirk in the early Star Trek series , I always felt his acting talent was a bit suspect and hammy to say the least . However in Star Trek there was a certain appeal , down mainly to the other cast members and plots .
This film had everything that is wrong in it . Rubbish sets , scenery which would wobble in the wrong places , exceptionally poor acting , particularly by Shatner and farcical scenes . The audience as one laughed , booed and generally moaned throughout this film . Initiall it was quite funny although it was meant to be a serious film .However after a while I actually felt embarrassed for the cast and that’s saying something .
Hubby loves cowboy films such as the old John Wayne ones so you can imagine how horrified he was . I'm not so keen on them but even the worst of those seemed like classics in comparison .
Recently I saw this film advertised for television so it must still appear from time to time . Take my advice and steer well clear of it unless you want to watch it for a laugh . It was so boring if it hadn’t been for the entertaining scenes in the cinema it would have seemed endless .
When you think William Shatner was in his prime at that time whatever possessed him to do this low budget film god only knows . Still he has found his true vocation now on fibre cereal adverts . Oops there goes that sarcasm again .
Thanks for reading
