Advantages: great crowds, the club has gone full time this season
Disadvantages: lots of competition
As a regular at Stevenage Boro, I'm sure this will come as a surprise, but I believe that Yeovil would grace the Football League. Their crowds - even when they spent a season in the Ryamn League - were brilliant. If they are contenders in the Conference this season Huish will be seeing 'house full' signs go up. So what will it be like if they make the League? In David Webb, they have a man capable of getting them into the Football League. A man with immense presence and experience. He is a 'doer' and I'm sure that many other clubs in the Conference who are eying up promotion, would give their eye teeth to have Webby in charge of their destiny. The Conference will be a close race this season with Rushden & Diamonds absolutely 'gagging' to go up - Doncaster have found some money from somewhere and must be one of the favourites - then there is Stevenage of course, with Paul Fairclough back in charge (they won the Conference with him as Manager four years ago) - I can't believe Scarborough or Herfeord don't fancy their chances of getting back into the League - and thats all without assuming Mark Wright won't do the business with Southport. Yeovil would be very well equipped to make the jump - BUT so are a few others clubs besides.

- 16/07/00 I agree with you about Yeovil, they have always had a strong fan base and good tradition, I think they deserve their shot much more than the likes of say Rushden who have used money to get there.
I would like to point out that my club is Wigan Athletic, and I know we have become hated because we have money behind us now, but for many, many years we were a massive club (in non-league terms) but it took us years to get elected to the League. At least now the parameters have been set, ie the ground must be up to scratch and the team must top the league. Unfortunately I feel that in these money mad times, it may well be filtering all the way down from the Premier League to the Conference and much further, but it would be great to see a famous giant killing club like Yeovil gracing the Football League.
By the way this is my first comment on here, so if I've done it wrong or it don't make sense then I apologise! |
