Advantages: is one of the best strikers around
Disadvantages: out of form at the moment.
Yorke's season so far has not been that great. Even as a United supporter I would go as far as to say that it has been pretty poor. But just because a player loses form doesn't mean that the class goes. Yorke, as the goal he scored agains the Hammers at the weekend shows, can still produce even when his game isn't at it's best. The problem for him is that both Ole and Teddy are performing at every chance they get. Yorke will struggle to regain his starting place in the line up. This leads to the question of squad rotation. Is it fair to have so many players at one club when it obviously damages their chances of playing? Clubs in the prem are in a no win situation. They have to have a large amount of players to compete not only domesticaly but in Europe too. The number of football clubs has not decreaed over the years. And although we bring over a lot more foreign players than ever before their leagues too are suffering the problems of having too many players. This suggests that the number of people striving to become footballers has increased. This means that increased competition for places is inevitable. This does not bode well for players such as Dwight Yorke who are a part of large squads. Ferguson though I think judges players not only for their skill on the pitch but also on their ability to handle things off it and as long as Yorke keeps training hard and trying to get over his dip in form his place at United, if not the team, is secured. The huge number of players in the game at the moment does at least ensure that the football we get to see every week is of a much higher quality than ever before.
