Introduction
Before I start I would like to just explain that this review has not been an easy one to write nor has it been quick to decide on my top 10 favourite songs…..
I live for music; I am very very passionate about the way music makes me feel. It’s like I can feel music deep within me and it also helps me express my emotions, so here I have listed my top 10 songs that mean the most to me lyrically and musically.
********************************************
10. Chicane – No Ordinary Morning, (Album: Ministry Of Sound, Chillout Session)
This track is an ambient trance track; with the harmonious type lyrics, I feel it brings my emotion to the forefront from inside my mind.
So why do I identify with this track? It dates back a few years… I had just split from my then boyfriend and this song was released (2000). It offered me so much hope whilst I was at the same time rebelling against my whole life. I became very attached to this song and to this day it still offers the same emotional connection for me. It makes me reminisce to days, that I realise now, were pretty much care free. Sensational listening value.

09. Christina Aguilera – The Voice Within, (Album: Stripped)
Christina’s voice is extremely powerful when expressing the lyrics of strength and power to get through life as a young girl. A pop song with a lot of class and style, it is beautifully expressed through her powerfully ranged vocals and slow beat.
I relate to this song so strongly as I have always taken strength from my inner self, I have had to guide myself through life and felt so very alone, at times that should have been shared. This song holds a special place for me at no.9.

08. Sugababes – Look At Me, (Album: One Touch)
A song that has been written from the perspective of a daughter who is to become independent and who wants to live and learn from her own mistakes in life. Musically it is sung in a minor key with a strong beat and is one to take in deeply.
So how do I identify with this song… it’s not so much being able to identify with the lyrics but more a case of what I have always wanted/needed from my parents. This song brings tears to my eyes as I always listen with such envy. I was once so very close to my dad as a little girl and now it couldn’t be further away from what were very special times.
A sad song for me but also a very special one and has a place in my top 10 at no.8.

07. George Michael – Careless Whisper, (Album: Best Of George Michael)
In my opinion this is the best song George Michael has sung to date. Lyrically this song is about the betrayal of a friend. This is another feeling that I have unfortunately had to experience many times. It’s a slow rhythmic beat softly sung throughout which enhances the poignant lyrics.
Loyalty is a strong trait of mine, I will be loyal to anyone I trust, but its earning that trust that’s so hard – that’s why I find this song to be very ironic. The meaning of the carefully composed words is why I have placed this song at no.7.
********************************************
06. Frankie Valli – Can’t Take My Eyes off You, (Album: The Definitive)
A really soppy love song, a classic to add to that! So why have I listed this at no.6…. simple, it’s because when I first met my boyfriend he kept singing this too me and now whenever I hear it, it brings tears to my eyes and heart! It makes me feel so warm and loved, I will admit it gets played all the time and I don’t get sick of it… who would if it makes you feel so loved and needed then that’s a good thing…. Right?

05. Madonna – Erotica, (Album: Erotica)
Probably the most upbeat entry in my top 10, it’s simply because the lyrics of this track reveal the sexual fantasies and thoughts within a sexual relationship. I love this song as I feel although it is about the erotica between 2 persons; it does display sensualist expressions and a lot of sexual depth. The tune is fantastic and is a great one to dance too.
So I identify with it how? Musically I find that when playing this song it does literally set the right ambience for love making which is always a good thing!!
********************************************
04. Celine Dion – Je Sais Pas, (Album: On Ne Change Pas)
Sung in French this song is a very dramatic song. Celine Dion’s voice sounds like that of an angel which penetrates my soul deeply.
Lyrically I interpret it to be about the strength of love, how you experience pain and hurt in life and can survive, but yet without the person who you devote you’re whole eternal self too, you cannot go on. The message of this song is so very intense to me hence its position at no. 4.

3. Neil Diamond – Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon, (Album: 1966-1992, Greatest Hits)
So why would I put this song at no.3? I feel this song has been written for me as the lyrics sum up an experience I have had. I have had people tell me to end my relationship to the man I love, as they portray the man I am seeing as being wrong for me. I need so very much what I am being given by him, oh how everyone gets him so very wrong.
The tune itself is actually quite sexy, maybe that is the irony of this tune. This song was in my opinion written for the voice of Neil Diamond!
********************************************
2. Moby – Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? (Album: Play)
This song has so much relevance to my own emotional state of mind that I feel I cannot go on too much about why I love it so much, to place it at no.2. I feel I can play over any past situation or emotion that I have experienced in my head, and this song is relevant… it provokes questions in my mind unlike any other tune does to date. It helps me find myself.
Lyrically it offers repetitiveness throughout and the short 2 lines of lyrics bring a lot of my emotion to the forefront hence why it is at no.2 in my list. This tune also features a gospel choir (in parts) which echoes the intensity through and through when accompanied by the array of instruments.
********************************************
01. Elton John – Sacrifice, (Album: Love Songs)
This song is sung in such a beautiful way that it makes my heart melt over and over; Elton John’s voice literally takes a step into my heart whenever I hear the poignant lyrics. There are so many human acts being explored in this song, love, deceit, betrayal and so many others… hence it being my highest entry at no.1.
I feel like I can literally feel the pain from his words and interpret them in so many ways. This is probably what is most important to me overall when listening to music.
The slow tone of Elton John’s voice mixed with the carefully selected notes on the piano are what makes this song my all time favourite.
