Advantages: Extra money
Disadvantages: Sometimes a lot of effort for little reward
I like many others on this site am a member of various survey websites. It is difficult to know which are the good ones and which are not worth joining unless you have some opinions from people who have tried them. I thought a top 10 survey websites would be great so you can work out if you want to join them or not!
I will start at 10 (being the worst) and work through to my number 1 site, some of my choices may be controversial, but it's my opinion...so there!
10. Survey Spot - This is an American based website and have started to pay in prize-draw entries only. If you are a lucky sort of person who always wins prizes then this may be for you, but if you want to actually make some money then just keep moving along!
9. Ciao.co.uk - Not the review site, but the survey site. Here you will be offered 10p for a 30 minute survey...I think not. You only need to get to £5 to cash out, however if you are like me you will be screened out for over 95% of the surveys, and sometimes they take a long time to screen you out so you feel really cheated at the end. Been a member for 8 months and not even at £1. Personally I would not recommend the survey site.
8. It's your view - This is another American based site. They do pay well for surveys, however I have only received 1 survey so far in about 3 months, it has quite a high threshold for cashing out (around £50), so a slow burner, however the surveys are generally worth £1+.
7. Yougov - This site is predominantly looking for your political views. A lot of the surveys carried out make it to the news, like in stories where they say 56% of people want David Cameron to wear Lycra etc. The surveys pay 50p- £1 in general but are usually quite dull. You need £50 to cash out and again it takes quite a while as you only normally get 1 survey a week.
6. Toluna - This site will send you quite a few surveys each week, sometimes 1 or 2 every day. However this is another site that screen out quite often, although they tend to do it quickly. There is not much choice in the vouchers on offer and you need a lot of points to get a voucher worth £10/£12. If you have babies this site is worth joining as they often link products to their surveys and I have been able to trial baby wipes and nappies for free.
5. Light Speed Panel - I joined this site through Pigsback.com as I got 200 piggy points for joining. You get 110 light speed points for most of the surveys which is almost £1. You can cash out at just £1 into a paypal account, or there are other prizes available. Surveys tend to come in flurries with 4 in a week and then nothing for a month.
4. Valued Opinions - This website has some good vouchers on offer at top high street chains. You need £10 to cash out a voucher which can be a bit slow going, but you can see how much you have in your account, and how much you are waiting to receive (you don't get paid until the end of the survey date, which can be a long time). Most of the surveys pay a minimum of 75p with lots being £1 - £1.50, the surveys are generally quite interesting.
3. Onepoll - This site is quite unique, in that they do not send you emails to tell you when surveys are available. You need to log into the website to see what surveys are open to you. You get £2.50 when you open your account and most surveys pay between 5p and 30p. Most are around the 10p mark, but they do not screen you out and the surveys are usually quite short, some are just 1 question long. The down side is you need £40 before you can request a cheque, but new surveys are added usually daily so if you check in every day you will get to £40 in a few months.
2. Pinecone Research - You have to find a banner to join this survey site which is a bit unusual. They pay in luncheon vouchers which can be used in most supermarkets and a variety of restaurants (including McDonald's, Bella Pasta etc). They pay quite well with around £4 for 20/30 minuets of your time, they send you these vouchers about 1 week after the survey has been completed.
1. Global Test Market - This is my number 1 because it is one of the fastest cash outs I have had. You need to reach 1000 global points which is equal to $50, you will then be sent a cheque in your local currency. I am currently waiting on a cheque so will update when it arrives! The surveys sent through offer 5-75 points generally, although screen outs are frequent you are given 5 points each time and they screen out early on. The surveys are interesting with music and music videos being used frequently to find out what music tastes you have. I usually get 1 survey every 2 days.
Although I have tried to note where surveys are plentiful or sadly lacking I would like to point out that all survey sites have peaks, some of them you will get 3 in one day and other 1 in 3 months. It seems to depend what companies what to know as to how often they need surveys. I don't think you could ever get rich completing surveys but you can earn a little extra money if you put the effort in!
Summary: Won't make you rich, but the extra pennies will help with the credit crunch
