Advantages: Great Nostalgia
Disadvantages: Its sad that we don't seem to have as many great theme tunes around anymore.
Here is a list of my Top 10 Cartoon Theme Tunes. Some of these you may have heard of and some you might not have but definitely worth a read. I have put a teaser in for each theme tune which will give you a taste of the first verse of the theme tune.
NUMBER TEN THEME TUNE: GUMMI BEARS
Sung by: Gene Miller
Created: 1985
Access to tune: www.youtube.com
I used to love this cartoon theme as I used to watch a lot of Saturday cartoons when I was a child. I always used to love the Granny Bear as she was very nice.
First lines of lyrics: Dashing and daring, Courageous and caring, Faithful and friendly, with stories to share.
The theme did not last that long but I really enjoyed this cartoon and one of my favourites.
NUMBER NINE THEME TUNE: GALAXY HIGH
Sung by: Don Felder
Created: 1986
Access to tune: www.80scartoons.co.uk/galaxy-high.html
I loved this cartoon and I have found it really hard to get a copy of the series. The theme song was sang through a synthesizer and fitted in quite nicely for the time it was made.
First lines of lyrics: Doyle was a high school star; everybody thought he'd go real far.
NUMBER EIGHT THEME TUNE: DUCK TALES
Sung by: The Jets
Created: 1987
Access to tune: www.80scartoons.co.uk/ducktales.html
I loved this cartoon and having a great theme tune made it even better. If this was still on TV today I would probably still be watching it on Saturday's. I used to love seeing all his gold pilled up and watching Scrooge McDuck dive into the coins.
First lines of lyrics: Life is like a hurricane here in Duckburg Race cars, lasers, aeroplanes - it's a duck blur, you might solve a mystery or rewrite history
NUMBER SEVEN THEME TUNE: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
Theme tune created by: Murakami-Wolf-Swenson
Created: 1984
Access to tune: www.youtube.com/watch?v=90Tueundpyk
I used to have the sticker collection to this series and used to always sing along to this tune whenever it appeared on my TV. I loved the 'Turtle Power' part of this theme tune.
First lines of lyrics: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Heroes in a half-shell, Turtle power!
NUMBER SIX THEME TUNE: ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS
Theme tune created by: Ross Bagdasarian, Sr
Created: 1983
Access to tune: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EkmnlmtNLo
This is my number six cartoon theme as it was quite annoying but used to stick in your head and you would end up singing this for hours after the episode had finished. I always wanted a Alvin jumper with the big A on it.
First lines of lyrics: Watch out cause here we come, It's been a while but we're, back with style, So get set to have some fun, We'll bring you action and satisfaction
NUMBER FIVE THEME TUNE: DAVID & THE GNOME
Created: 1985
Access to tune: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAphcvZaS8I
Not many people remember this cartoon and I loved the theme tune. The song was not on for very long but still a great cartoon and a great theme song to go with it. If you like Gnomes with red hats like the ones out of your garden then this is the cartoon for you.
First lines of lyrics: Look around you there are many things to see, that some would say could never be these things I know, it's true and I will tell you so they are there to see if you believe.
NUMBER FOUR THEME TUNE: CHIP N DALE RESCUE RANGERS
Created: 1989
Sung by: The Jets
Access to tune: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2e5q6ubDlZE
I remember watching this and always wanting a piece of cheese. The overweight mouse in the cartoon always wanted cheese and always looked tasty. The theme tune was another one of those catchy tunes that kids could sing along too.
First lines of lyrics: Some times some crimes, go slippin' through the cracks, but these two gumshoes, are pickin' up the slack.
NUMBER THREE THEME TUNE: THE RACCOONS
Created: 1988
Sung by: Lisa Lougheed
Access to tune: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXsjzcC4Jdw
This theme tune was one of my all time favourites and just seemed to fit this cartoon perfect. This track was released on Lisa Lougheed's album called Evergreen Nights and recently remixed by a group called Spray (Dance group).
First lines of lyrics: When darkness falls, leaving shadows in the night. Don't be afraid. Wipe that fear from your eyes.
NUMBER TWO THEME TUNE: THUNDERCATS
Created: 1985
Theme tune created by: Saverios
Access to tune: www.youtube.com
This is my second favourite theme tune of all time and loved this cartoon. I had the sword which lit up in the dark and I felt like a real thundercat in the dark lighting up the hall in our house with the thundercat logo and saying "Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats, Ho!"
First lines of lyrics: [Lion-o] Thunder, thunder, thundercats, Ho! Thundercats are on the move, thundercats are loose.
Great cartoon and just misses out on number 1 spot.
NUMBER ONE THEME TUNE: CAPTAIN PLANET
Created: 1990
Theme tune created by: Ted Turner
Access to tune: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR9kMkMCWIw
This is my number one cartoon theme song and mainly because I wanted to have an element ring like each Planeteer had. The theme tune was really catchy and felt that the whole cartoon was setting a good example to kids at a young age that they should recycle and not pollute. This should be brought back in my opinion.
First lines of lyrics: By your powers combined, I am Captain Planet!
Captain Planet, He's our hero, Gonna take polution down to zero, he's our powers magnified, and he's fighting on the planet's side.
So there you have it my top 10 Cartoon theme tunes. I could have added a lot more theme songs mainly due to the fact that the 80's was a golden era for classic cartoon themes.
I hope you enjoyed my review and please visit my profile again for more reviews like this one.
