Advantages: Get rid of the Corrie deadwood
Disadvantages: None
I've watched Corrie since I was a child but, in its current state it's a pale imitation of it's former self. Aside from the writing and storylining teams (who need a good kick up the backside for putting together some truly atrocious storylines) the show would benefit from axing some truly awful characters. Here are my Top Ten To Go:-
1 - 3: Fiz Brown, Kirk Sutherland & Chesney Battersby-Brown.
What are they still doing there? Sam Aston has lost whatever "cute factor" he once had and the fact that Cilla's left the programme means that there's nobody being "evil" to him.
Kirk's "I'm really thick me" routine has long since run its course (not that it was that funny in the first place) and I'm fed up of Jenni MacAlpine using that whiny voice she puts on to try and elicit sympathy for Fiz. You also have to ask quite how they're managing to run a household when the only person who's working is Fiz. Get rid of them and put a decent family in.
4) Kelly Crabtree.
The character's is played by a mediocre actress at best and has had no storylines to speak of since she's been on the Street. A good character should make you either care about them or hate them. Kelly does neither.
5) Sean Tully.
Arguably the worst "actor" on the Street Antony Cotton makes me cringe with his OTT "performances" every time he's on the screen. I'm sure that there are millions of little old ladies who think he's "lovely" or "sweet" and that all gay men act like him but I find the character completely unlikeable and the "acting" not fit for am-dram. He's one dimensional and any storyline that requires him to do drama falls flat on its face.
6-7) Dev Alahan & Uncle Umed.
Is anyone fed up of Dev accentuating a FEW WORDS in every sentence he utters. Can't he SPEAK PROPERLY without over emphasising certain parts of his speech & making himself sound TOTALLY and UTTERLY ridiculous.
If the rumour about Sunita returning is true I can only hope that she has some positive effect on the character but somehow I doubt it.
As for Uncle Umed, he's one of the worst new characters to be introduced recently. Totally unfunny & annoying.
8) Rhursie Webster.
I have nothing against the character as such but Helen Flanagan's acting flaws were really highlighted during the episodes in which she was "kidnapped". Her stuff this week inside the prison with John Stape made me cringe with embarrassment. Time for a headswap I think.
9 - 11) Eddie, Anna & Gary Windass.
Brought into the show to cause trouble for the Platts which they've succeeded in doing. Anna's about the best of the bunch but I can't find anything to like or get interested in with regard to either of the male Windass's. Eddie is particularly lame as a character. Bring back to Morton's - all is forgiven!
Ok, I've cheated and picked 11!
Instead we have Corrie axing people like Wiki who actually had some potential to her character. With the way that some sections of society view people from Eastern Europe there was scope to bring her family across & see how they coped with life here. Instead the Corrie production team have elected to keep all the rubbish listed above & give them even more rubbish storylines in the name of "entertainment"
Hoping incoming producer Phil Collinson (ex Doctor Who) will give the show the shake up it needs.
Summary: It needs to be done. You know it's makes sense.

- 22/06/09 I love Corrie, but WHEN WHEN WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO KILL OFF DEV?!?!?!?!? |

- 22/06/09 Corrie has always thrived on ridiculously camp actors - did anyone actually believe that Fred Elliott was straight? But that new Asian guy (presumably Uncle Umed) is ridiculous in the extreme. He looks like a pantomime dame. Dreadful! And how come Dev Alahan's in it? Did he get caught in a 'coke and prostitues' scandal about five years ago?
I'm really glad I don't watch this! :) |
