Advantages: Have your say

Disadvantages: Crazy country

I occasionally need to flush stuff out of my system so why not here. It's the usual Daily Mail rant but that's the beauty of opinion sites!

01~ Celebrities getting away with it!

Steven Gerard and Amy Winehouse got off scott free last month for punching members of the public for no apparent reason, in Gerard's case actually admitting he threw the first punches, but charged with affray for some reason and not the more appropriate ABH. Loyal scousers cheered him outside of the courthouse for getting off (somehow the members of the jury had no Everton fans on it), a unanimous not guilty verdict for the Liverpool midfielder.

The odious creature Pete Doherty snorts away with people like Amy and yet gets no serious prison time for what is effectively encouraging impressionable kids to take coke and shoot up. Little black kids get shot and stabbed in London over drugs because of toe rags like Doherty. What sort of example are judges setting by not jailing these people?

02 ~ Going green ~

The middle-class have righteously embraced the new religion of 'green', but don't want it obstructing their views near their second homes, wind turbines and bio crops a big no no. Our PM tells us a green economy is the way out of recession. But then won't help save the jobs in Britain's remaining wind turbine factory, especially when he promised to build 3000 of them in the next five years. Just to replace the power of one current nuclear power station alone in England will take so many windmills that the blades wouldn't be able to turn they are that close together.

The Yummy mummies in their husbands 4x4s will venture out and buy fair trade coffee (doing 15 miles to the gallon in those Chelsea tractors), fair enough, or down to the local tip to dump bottles and cans. But if green messes up their routine then they are not interested. They buy organic food only because the 'proles' can't afford it and so they can walk the sacred aisle in Waitrose (they only shop with them) away from the said proletariat, even though they know organic food is no healthier than normal food, as proved in a recent piece of research from Sussex University. They think they are better than us because they can afford to go green but you're just as much a sucker to advertising and fashions as the rest of us for going green, the latest fad.

03~ The Smoking ban!

Post smoking ban 50 pubs a week are now closing and 95% of those are the traditional local working class boozer where people go for a beer and smoke after work and weekends... the target punter of the ban to make them stop smoking. Thing is the smokers are no longer smoking in the pubs that were full of smokers and now at home with a four pack smoking even more fags and so their kids breathing in the smoke even more? Most babies that die from cot death have a smoking parent or two. Expect SIDS to rocket once again!

Smoking is about raising tax and I'm baffled why smoking is being banned in pubs yet alcohol drinking is being encouraged by the same government with 24 hour drinking in the same pubs? Yes the ban may deter new smokers, especially the students and young kids, but let the ones that do smoke at least have a fag in the pub out of the rain and go out in style. I'm fed up of paying more income taxes as we cut off more and more ways of gathering them. With benefit payments officially outstripping income tax revenue for the first time we need to keep them smoking a least.

04 ~ Forced marriages in a democratic mature country

To counter forced marriages in the U.K the government introduced a law where women or men born abroad must be 21 and over to get married in the UK, targeting the Pakistan and Bangladeshi communities in particular were most forced marriages take place here.
Adam from Wales and Rochelle from Canada were certainly not having a forced marriage, but snared in the rule after being married just three weeks, three weeks after the law came into being in the U.K, they having to annul their marriage and she being deported next month, unable to return until she's 21. They were very unlucky and no doubt she wanted to marry her man quick so to stay in the country as her visa had expired before the wedding but never-the-less she was caught up in this rule aimed at forced marriages, believed to involve around 4000 women at any one time here being pressured into the cultural honour couplings in the U.K, usually one half being tricked to go abroad.

The absurdity of this is the same human rights lawyers that argue for the rights of illegal immigrants to stay here because their countries of origin are too dangerous to return are apparently not helping to defend the rights of these young girls that are being forced to marry in those very same countries, these couplings often purely an exercise in getting the partner a green card or access to a family dowry. A law that's aimed at stopping 14-year-old Bangladeshi girls from being made to marry men in their 30s they have never met is instead being used on people who just want to be together and targeted solely to counter any racial bias on the all important stats, so most weddings that are over-turned are not all going to be Asian couples, the surreptitious point of the law in the first place. I'm sure a by product of the law is also to cut down on sham marriages but surely the safety of young innocent girls are the priority?

05 ~ Cars mean revenue

Clampers are going crazy out there, hiding behind walls to jump on cars the moment the driver is out of sight, £300 thank you very much. Parking Wardens lurk in the shadows waiting for your ticket to tick over and bang on the yellow ticket for a £30 fine. In Northampton we are ranked top in tickets issued per driver in the shire yet the councillor who runs the scheme is under investigation for dodging tickets, parking his untaxed car in a public multi-storey for the winter and suspiciously remained un-ticketed. He's the same chap who sends his wardens out into the 'burbs' at weekends on their little yellow mopeds to ambush drivers in quiet rural streets for the smallest of violations, streets and cul-de-sacs who have never seen a prang or congestion in their history, why wardens exist. He does this because Northampton residents are so fed up of being ticketed they leave their cars at home or shop in Milton Keynes and so his parking ticket revenue started to tumble.

In Northampton our main thoroughfares into town are lined with cheap cars for sale, free carlots for our Polish visitors to sell their wares. Local forecourts that were selling cars and paying sky-high business taxes complained about this unfair advantage. The council decided it was too much effort to move the cars and put up the business taxes. Why are councils and the police with their speed tickets so short-sighted on how important drivers are to the economy? And when are they actually going to fine people who cheat with disability badges right underneath extensive CCTV camera coverage!Today we read that CCTV cameras solve just one crime in a thousand yet speed cameras are gospel and that blurred image of your Car means your nicked, come what may, those babies having a one-in-three strike rate, recent regulations put in place to make it even harder to dispute parking and speeding fines by you having to meet court costs.

06 ~ Crime does pay!

Criminals were given over six million pounds last year for information on fellow lags, some up to £100,000 grand each. That's acceptable if it means it recovers more than £6 million a year and bangs up some bad guys. I suspect it doesn't. Some accept shorter jail time instead of cash to give up colleagues and information. The more cash we hand out the less effective police become. We know cops now go out on the streets to keep order rather than make arrests now prisons are full and so even if the bad gust are grassed up there's no space for them in jail.

07 ~The weather!

The 'BBQ summer' was never to be, the Met Office (owned by the military of defence by the way) back peddling once again after hyping up the weather with silly quotes like that particular one back in May. If they can't even predict a week ahead then why have they tried to predict three months ahead, let alone involved with man made global warming hype in twenty years time stuff? I suspect that is the real reason why they are in a pickle, under pressure to back that hype up by claiming we are having warmer summers to fill their man made global warming model, but in fact its just normal British summer after summer, world temps actually falling in the last three years. How come in early April they can say that 14-15 degrees feels warm yet they then say 18-21 degrees in July is cool? 21 degrees is as normal warm weather as you can get in England so why can't we accept we get our weather off the Atlantic so it will always be capricious and unpredictable like the ocean. They seem obsessed with making global warming real when most people know its government spin to rake in taxes. How can our gas bills be doubling if GB is getting warmer and so less gas used? Economies of scale say the price should drop in that case.

08~ Human rights lawyers!

Where human rights really get peoples goat is in cases like that of the murdered Bradford police officer Sharon Buzcweski, gunned down by an East African gang who were robbing a travel agent. The Somalia killers fled to their native country and hid out in the sticks before local gangs cut from the same cloth rounded them up and handed them over to the British police, via Interpol, for a bounty. But these guys were prolific offenders in the UK long before the murder of the police officer and couldn't be deported because the lawyers said it breeched their human rights to be sent back to a country as dangerous as Somalia?? The reason it's so dangerous is because of people like them in the first place, released early from our crowded prisons to end up killing a police officer! That sort of paradox is not uncommon with these greedy and erroneously caring lawyers and if I was PM closing those loop holes would be my first stroke of the presidential pen.

09~ Joanna Lumley!

I'm sure Joanna 'Botox' Lumley is a lovely lady and proud of her Ghurkha heritage but if she shouts "Ayo Gurkhali" one more time I will stick that machete handle up her jacksy! The Ghurkhas are superb soldiers and serve the crown well but they are mercenaries and the reason why they are used, simple as, and have British army pensions worth a king's ransom back home in their own countries. They also fight for India and other countries. They are far better off in the bosom of their family in Nepal than urine soaked care homes in England. They are top guys and highly respected here but any laws to allow them to come in on mass will open a loop hole for most of the commonwealth to do the same, the reason why New Labour want to block some of the Ghurkhas rites in the first place. To me Lumley is an aging actress who can't get work and is using this campaign to stay in the limelight, just as Esther Rantzen is running for Luton South.

10 ~ compo!

Apparently we spend £7 billion a year on Compensation claims ,post traumatic stress disorder seeing a 300% increase in claims in the last five years alone as lawyers exploit loop-holes. 220,000 servicemen claimed compo in the last ten years yet we only have 45,000 front line troops, hence the government trying to close that loop hole last month.

In America legal claims have increased 50 fold since World War 2, one-in-three Americans having been sued at this point and one-in-eighty people in America lawyers of some sort now. Absurd claims include the burglar who sued the householder for leaving a knife around which he cut himself on - and won the claim. Or the parents of a kid who sued Disney because their boy was traumatised when Mickey took his head off for a fag at the theme park and so little Johnny discovered Mickey was human causing untold suffering. They didn't win. The best one was a surfer who sued another surfer for 'stealing his wave'. He didn't win either.

But if you want good compensation payouts you best not be in the military. A solider gets £16,000 for losing a hand in a war zone but if you break your ankle on a night out in England because your stiletto gets caught in a crack outside of a pub then you get £18,000, exactly what a lady was awarded after a night out in Exeter. She admitted she had enjoyed a few drinks and when she staggered out of a pub and her heel found a crack on the pubs property the rather large lady went ass over tit and the claim went straight in. Last year a student sued a shoe chain in a similar claim because her two inch heel collapsed on the first night out, she was awarded seven grand!

Can't entirely agree with 2. The Sussex University research was used very selectively and totally ignored the fact that organic food is not full of chemicals, which some of us are trying to avoid.
It's not about going green, I like organic veg - carrots and tomatoes taste better and I know they're not loaded with chemicals.
