Advantages: Simple to use, BIO 50 Programme - saves energy, Plates come out dry!

Disadvantages: None at all!

"Simply the Best" means two things:
Simple for the simple low end model
Best for one of the very good dishwashers on the market.

Our 10 year old Hoover Super Crystaljet dishwasher finally conked out. It was top of the range for it's time, but totally rubbish compared to today's models. The Hoover did have it's advantages (easy-to use push button control, programme progress lights, fairly quiet) and also disadvantages (didn't dry properly, only washed properly at 65 and 70 degress, push buttons kept popping out, non-adjustable top basket).

Seeming as the dishwasher was getting on and it wa the umpteenth time it broke, we decided on Saturday to get a new dishwasher because we had recently redecorated the kitchen and the ivory colour clashed with it. We looked round 5 different electrical shops - Lincoln Co Op, Comet, Currys, Scottish Power an Downtown.

Looking at the ranges now available, it seemed a daunting task at first! But we soon learnt which were the good ones and which were the bad. We had several biased opinions of brands from different shops, but after reading product brochures we decided we liked ranges from Zanussi, Bosch, AEG and Miele.

First we looked at the Miele - too expensive. Then the Bosch - didn't like the layout of baskets. Then Zanussi - depth too large (64 cm, our kitchen units are 60cm), and finally AEG (with the right price, right depth and nice layout of baskets)

We bought the AEG from Comet. It only took us forty-five minutes to get there (5 miles through rush hour traffic), look round the dishwashers, buy the AEG, take it home ourselves and up and running a full load.

The dishwasher is absolutely superb. The baskets are well laid out. The cutlery basket is all in one and you can carry it around collecting all the cutlery (the Hoover had inbuilt baskets), a funnel-less top spray arm (more room in top basket), a main wash and prewash dispens
er and a removable filter.

The rinse aid and salt dispensers are easy to reach and fill - the salt dispenser is at the front rather than at the back like our old Hoover. And it is a breeze to fill.

The control panel is simple. There is a programme selection dial, an on-off button, a BIO 50 button, a programme guide and an easy to use handle that doesn't feel like it's going to snap in your hand. The dial selects either the main washing cycle (with optional pre-wash, main-wash, cold rinse, hot rinse, drying), the quick wash cycle (main-wash. cold rinse, hot rinse) or the rinse and hold cycle. All cycles (except for rinse and hold) operate at 65 degress unless the BIO 50 button is pressed. This gives the same result as the 65 wash, as the cycle is extended. On the main wash cycle, you can also choose whether you want a prewash cycle or not by starting the dial at a certain position.

The dishwasher is one of the quietest available on the market - it is quieter than my friend's new Hotpoint and definitely quieter than my old Hoover (and we used to say that was quiet when we bought it).

This is certainly a good dishwasher. It was only £249.99, too! Extreme value for money. I highly recommend this dishwasher and anyone who's in the market for a decent but cheap dishwasher at the same time - usually impossible.
