Advantages: no more washing up - so no more kitchen sink arguments, hurrah

Disadvantages: Pyrex does very badly, chips and scratches

Easy to use, the top basket can be lifted up to fit overside items (platters, etc) in the bottom tray. There is a neat cutlery basket that fits in the bottom rack and can be removed for easy filling and emptying. The plate holders in the bottom rack fold down for large pots and pans. And bits of food are collected in an easily lifted out basket, that should be rinsed out daily.
I use dishwasher tablets, they fit into a holder in the door that gets released when the temperature is correct.
Most of my dishwashing is done on program A, which rinses, washes then heat dries the crockery. I make use of the extensive range of programs at Christmas and big family parties when the best china and glasses get used. There can be nothing nicer than the squeeky clean shine of a dishwashed wine glass!
Make sure you fill up the dishwasher salt regularly (mine has a light to tell me) and that your dishwasher uses rinse aid (it makes a huge difference to the finish). I have not noticed any difference between the brand name and shops own brand stuff, I buy what is cheapest or on special offer.
Dishwashers need only a few programs, an extra hot wash for really grubby stuff, a hot wash for daily stuff and a gentle wash for glasses. I give pots a good soak and a scrub before I dish wash them, but all I do with crockery is scrape the food off, no need to pre-rinse stuff with this workhorse!
When I bought the dishwasher I also bought a 12 place crockery and cutlery setting, budget range from Savacentre. I make sure I rotate the items, so everything gets an equal number of washings. This was 3 years ago, and everything is now showing signs of abuse from the chemicals and wash programs. NEVER wash your good stuff in a dishwasher, its not worth the risk.
