I love this machine - despite its shortcomings!
Yes, I was a dishwasher virgin. After years of my partner insisting on manually washing up, I finally put my foot down and ordered this dishwasher from John Lewis (£190). It is a basic model - but I like this about it - turn the dial, press the button and it does the job. I don't want to be digitally programming it - and then having to train partner and daughter to do it. I mostly use the eco function because I hope it is the most environmentally friendly one. Unfortunately, I am usually in bed before it has finished its cycle after supper. This means it is still in a sort of standby mode all night (not very eco?).
For three of us in the house it means filling it either once or twice a day - depending if we are out or in most of the day. I do find filling it a bit of an art - which I think I have mastered - but the other two haven't (sigh, will this mean a training session?). I have some Denby plates but they are a bit too fat for the slots provided for plates. I also have some slimmer crockery - and that fits in much better. I have found one area in the dishwasher that does not seem to be great (top back) often the bowl placed here has bits on it.
However, I find that the general quality of most of my dishwashed pots is good - in fact much, much, better than washed by hand. I find that, generally, the more you try to ram into it the less good the finish.
The top tray sometimes comes off its rails when pulled out -but it is very easy to put back on. The filter thing is easy to take out and rinse - and the dishwasher still smells great (some people complain that their dishwasher has an odour after a while).
I'm often forgetting items - and its easy to open the door and slot them in any way through the cycle.
After using many white items, non of them are perfect. This item is certainly good enough.
