Advantages: energy and water efficient, washes the dishes so you dont have to

Disadvantages: the end of cycle beeping goes on a bit

I first encountered Neff when I kitted out the kitchen in my old house in 2006. when I moved house I had to leave them behind, so I needed a new dishwasher.

I did not hesitate in going back to Neff as I really like their products. Neff combines, function, form and design.

Features
~~~~~~~~
This is Neff's mid-range dishwasher and has the following features:
* Light to show cycle in progress
* five washing programmes and half load cycle
* salt and rinse aid indicator
* lower cutlery basket
* upper knife rack
* spray facility
* digital timer display
Rather than me going through all the standard features, you can check out www.neff.co.uk.
If you are anything like me, then you will put everything in the dishwasher, from pots and pans to plastics. My view is if an item does not survive the dishwasher it was never very good in the first place - lol. Since getting my dishwasher the chore has become loading and unloading the dishwasher, but I would never be without one now as I find that this appliance does the job so much better than myself alone. I never have to wash or dry and that is so convenient.
The Neff dishwashers have a hydro sensor which allows water from the first rinse cycle to be re-used if it is clean enough - say if you had lightly soiled dishes, it can save 4-5 litres of water.
~~~~~~~~
Usage
~~~~~~~~
You can use dishwashing tablets or liquid in this appliance, it is your choice, but even if you have tablets with salt, you should still put separate salt in the unit. This will soften the water and prevent your appliance calcifying.
The appliance comes with a digital timer display but I think the Neff guys did not consider it's usage. As this is an integrated appliance the buttons and display are usually covered by the worktop, so you cannot see them. So what would be the use of the display if it is hidden during the cycle? I think this is where the floor light comes in as it is on during the cycle so you don't inadvertently open the door during a cycle.
There is only one thing I have to note on this appliance that I don't like and it is the end of cycle notification. It is a series of bleeps, I think 3 or 4 beeps within 30 seconds of each other which is fine if you are awake. However, this sequence of beeps continues 4-5 times (about 20 minutes apart) and can be quite loud if you have a small house or your bedroom is above the kitchen. I wish Neff would allow you to control the frequency or the volume of the notification or even whether you want a beep or not.
Maintenance
~~~~~~~~~~

In terms of maintence, there is not really much you need to do to keep it long-lasting. Every 12 cycles or so, I would recommend using a dishwasher cleaner. You can get a cleaning bottle or cleaning tablets and use them on a normal cycle in an empty dishwasher. If you use the dishwasher constantly, then I suggest you make time for this activity, especially for endurance of the appliance.

You also have regularly top up the salt, but there is an indicator telling you when to do that. Because I fill up the salt infrequently, my only problem is that I don't recognise the salt refill indicator on the LCD and have to consult the manual when I see it - LOL.

If you use tablets without rinse aid then you also need to top that up and there is an indicator for that. You also get 2 year guarantee as standard, but to be honest I have never had to invoke this as the Neff products are well made.

Despite this though, it does not dampen my liking of the product and I am sure my next dishwasher will be a Neff.

NOTE : This is an integrated appliance so you will need your own furniture door for the unit in order to operate it safely.

Thanks for reading..! (Also posted on ciao)
