Advantages: saves time, no more standing at the kitchen sink
Disadvantages: a little more expensive than washing by hand
We decided that with 4 kids it was probably time to invest in a dishwasher.
After searching around on the net we decided on a Whirlpool ADP4601.This is a full size machine which holds 12 place settings.
This machine needs a cold water supply and a waste connection. It also requires a space measuring 600mm widex570mm depth(minimum)x816 high(minimum.
It has 6 programmes:
Pre-rinse which is a cold rinse with no detergent and takes 10 minutes, useful for rinsing until you have a full load,0.02 kwh.
Quickwash, 40 degrees, lightly soiled with no dried on food, 30 minutes,0.70 kwh.
Eco,50 degrees,normally soiled,80 minutes,1.35 kwh.?
Eco-Normal,50 degrees,normally soiled,120 minutes,1.05 kwh.?
Normal,65 degrees,normal or heavily soiled,90 minutes,1.65 kwh.?
Intensive,70 degrees,heavily soiled,especially pans etc,( not non-stick),70 degrees,125 minutes,1.90 kwh.?
I have put a question mark beside most of the settings as have taken them from the instruction manual and am not 100% convinced that the kwh are in the right order.
The front control panel has a program selector, start button,Salt indicator, Rinse aid indicator and a power on/off button.
After installation I would reccomend reading the instruction manual as this explains how and where to add salt and rinse aid,(Not household salt).
Loading the machine is easy but the manual does take you through this. On the inside of the door there is a detergent compartment and a rinse aid compartment which are both easily filled, the salt compartment is inside the machine on the bottom left hand side.
Detergent is added with every load but both salt and rinse aid are only added occasionally, the indicators on the front panel will let you know when to refill these.
The machine came with a small sample of finish detergent tablets(2) and a water hardness tester, this is a disposable test strip which indicates whether you have soft through to hard water ( the instructions that come with the strip explain how to use it and interpret the results, and if you then look this up in the manual it will tell you what setting the salt dispenser needs to be set at.
We have found this machine does its job and does it well, most of the time using the normal setting performs well for us. Perhaps one of the times when the intensive setting is needed is when there is dried egg on your crockery.
