Numark CDN25+G Professional Karaoke CD Player
by MamaC
My family and myself often have the odd party at Christmas and in the summer months, and it usually ends up being a disco thrown in with a few people taking centre stage to show off their vocal abilities. It got to the stage when people expected me to lug my mixing using plus expensive microphone down from my studio just so that they ... could sing a song or two. That's when I decided it was time to buy something that was suited to the needs of my guests (and me of course.)
I found this Numark karaoke CD player on a website and plenty of people had written good reviews about it. One thing that stood out for me it that it was rack mountable, so I could easily screw it in to the rack that I have which is on wheels.
THE SPECS:
It's rack mountable and has dual bays. There is a dual composite RCA video outputs for CD+G karaoke lyric display (if you need this of course.) It's CDR compatible and has digital output for crystal clear recordings. PLEASE NOTE that is does not come with a microphone; you'll have to buy this separately.
I hook the system up to my floor standing large speakers and it's really the perfect combo. Quality of the unit is great and it looks kind of semi-pro. There's a handy sleep mode feature, which automatically puts the player into standby mode in order to save the units laser.
It's highly affordable and a great addition to a private party or maybe you are a budding DJ that's out to impress, but I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to have some real party fun and find out which friends can and can't actually sing!

Pioneer DJM600
by ILIKEMONEY
For Dj's these days there are many quality mixers available on the market. These can range from 2 channel mixers to 6 channel, and even extra mic channels to bridge the gap between a DJ mixer and a small live mixer.
The Pioneer DJM series has been a very popular Dj mixer series for many years and the DJM 600 is a 4 channel ... version with built in effects unit.
The DJM 600 has been one of the industry standard mixers in previous years although it has now been replaced by newer models such as the DJM 800. Since this mixer has been used in so many top clubs in the world, you know that it's a quality product that can be trusted.
The four channels are great as it means you can have 2 turntables and 2 Cdj's attached at the same time. Adding in extra inputs is easy and switching between a phono or line input on each channel is as easy as flicking a switch.
Each channel gives you great control of low mid and high eq as well as individual gain knobs. Each channel has a Cue button so that you can listen, and see the levels on the led indicators, to just that channel with headphones.
The effects on this mixer are great and range from reverb and filters to delays and flangers. Effects can be routed to a single channel or over the master output but a simple rotary knob. To put an effect on there is a large LED lit button that flashes when pressed to let you see that the effect is on. The level of the effect is adjusted by another rotary knob.
The crossfader on this mixer is good as you can assign which channels can be each side of the fader and you can also adjust the fader curve. This fader feels good and can be used well for scratching and precise fading.
This mixer sounds great and is built really well so will last the test of time. I would recommend this mixer to anyone who wants a good Dj mixer.
Although there are more updated versions of this mixer, this mixer is great and since newer models are out there you can probably get a good bargain on a second hand DJM 600.

Mackie Onyx 1620
by jonnybos
The preamps on this desk are way beyond what you would expect of a desk at this price! I use this desk to link up my drum kit and i find myself in the strange situation of having better preamps than what my own mics are capable of. Distortion is minimal and there is plenty of inputs for most needs such as cd player/ipod/stereo/computer ... or other. There is no groups section on this desk and its probably not the best desk for working with a live band due to its limited size, however for personal use (such as what im doing) or for dj's simply mixing levels and maybe wanting to add compressors or other outboard gear to their mixes then this will do the job great! The desk is also fairly heavy for a desk of this size, if that is going to be a concern. If not i highly recommend it. Read the complete review |
