I have recently purchased an AKAI MPC2000XL, which after the intially confusing name and steep learning curve has allowed me to sample and sequence beats and riffs. From here I can layer them over one another and produce songs for the masses. I use this machine to play the backing tracks to 2 musician friends who play guitar and bass over the top. Some years ago there was an exploision of bedroom musicians charting high positions in the top 40, machines like the AKAI will allow a new generation of the bedroom based beat heads to produce and release music and when combined with internet based promotion sites we will soon see an end to the big studio, big company ...
