Advantages: All in one device, has a lighting LED touchpad!
Disadvantages: I need about £300 to buy one
The KP3 is the third installment from Korg in the Kaoss Pad series and it proves to combine many features into one.
First and foremost it is a dynamic effects processor which can effect any audio processed through it whether it be through the RCA stereo phono input or through the quarter inch jack input where a mic can be placed.
These effects include grain shifters, delays, vocoders as well as loopers and the parameters of these effects are all controlled by the LED touchpad in the centre of the unit.
The KP3's second function is that of a sampler. This is where you can really get creative as you can sample anything from the audio inputs or through pre-peared samples via an SD card and place them on to one of four banks A B C and D. After finding that you have reached your bank limit you can multisample the whole stereo output on to one of these banks giving an infinite resource of resampling capability.
The final of the KP3s uses is that of a midi controller whereby it can be hooked up to anything capable of receiving midi control messages and then send control using the x-y axis and the touch of the LED touchpad as well as one fader, one rotary knob and four buttons on the surface of the Kaoss Pad.
The KP3 really allows for some excellent use of creativity and more importantly, is so much fun to use!!
Summary: the KP3 is the musicians favourite toy
