3 Peaks Dog Collar

When it was time to replace my dogs collar I really wanted to get the exact same Rogz version he had but unfortunately Rogz collars can be a little bit of a nightmare to get a hold of. Therefore, in the end after shopping around in Pet's At Home and in need of a collar more or less immediately we finally picked up the 3 Peaks Black Xtreem Trek Dog Collar as pictured above.

Initially what attracted me to the collar was the padded look and feel to it, which is something I hadn't really noticed in collars before. It looked like it would be comfortable to wear and although my dog isn't that much of a puller when he's on a lead I always worry that when he does pull he might end up hurting his neck. So I thought a bit of extra padding would definitely be a good thing.

As far as I am aware the collar only comes in black with a reflective trim which again was another selling point for me, as sometimes I take my dog out very early in the morning when it is still pitch dark around us. Therefore, any added reflective gear that I can get for him or for me is always an added bonus.

The collar was not overly expensive, I paid £8.99 for a large size and if my dog would have liked it more I would have been happy with the price. The collar feels sturdy and well made and doesn't feel at all cheap or poor quality. We usually end up changing collars about once a year and I'm sure this collar would not have been any different, it feels substantial enough to last even with getting a tad grubby.

One thing about the collar that I did feel was a bit gimmicky was the inbuilt dog tag. It's a pull out segment that you could write your dog's name, phone number or whether or not your dog has been chipped. It was the only part of the collar that I thought felt and looked a little cheap but it could certainly come in handy for some people.

The 3 peaks collar as with all the majority of other collars comes in a range of sizes from small to extra large and the range of sizes combines with the adjustability of the collar itself means I'm sure it will be possible to find something to suit nearly all dogs breeds and sizes. The collar also has a chunky clip and generally looks quite sturdy.

Personally I didn't have a problem with this collar I was quite happy to take it home and put it on my eagerly awaiting dog. However, he had a completely different opinion of the collar. He didn't like it, I left it on him hoping that he would get used to the difference in weight and feeling to his old Rogz collar. But after only three days of wearing the 3 peaks collar I came downstairs one morning to find that he had taken it off and destroyed it, with the sorry looking remains of the collar laying in the corner of the kitchen in tatters. He'd made his decision. So back on went his old collar until I could find yet another replacement and hopefully another Rogz.

To sum, the 3 peaks dog collar isn't necessarily a bad purchase it just wasn't something that our dog enjoyed wearing. Therefore from me and my labradoodle the collar only gets three out of five stars despite it being reasonably made and good quality.

Summary: Three out of Five stars
