Advantages: Good value, durable, dogs like them

Disadvantages: Squeaker is annoying after a while, not completely indestructable!

I recently came across a coupon in the paper which entitled me to a free pack of tennis balls from Pets at Home. I don't often use freebie coupons but tennis balls always come in handy for my dogs to play with so I decided to pop in and get them when I was in town. Rather than just walking up to the cashier and handing them the coupon I decided to have a bit of a browse.

I ended up buying these as I knew that my dogs would love them seeing as they squeek and they seemed very durable. We had the normal tennis balls - a pack of two - for around two days before they'd been bitten in half and chewed and three weeks later the Kong balls are still in tact and in reasonably good condition which shows just how durable they are and I will not be buying normal tennis balls again!

At £3.00 for a pack of large balls they're quite a bit more expensive than a generic tennis ball but they're well worth it. Kong is a brand that I am happy to pay more for as all of the Kong toys that my dogs have are incredibly durable which is always an advantage considering that they are very strong chewers. The balls are widely available from most pet stores and they can be purchased online as well from various pet accessory retailers and Amazon sell them too.

The three balls came in a netted bag which was attatched to a large cloud shaped cardboard label. The bag was reasonably easy to open but I found the large label a little unnesscary. The balls themselves are almost identical to 'proper' tennis balls, they are around the same size if a little smaller and have the same fuzzy type of material.

They're a lot more durable though and the material is quite thick and rather than being hollow they have a squeeker inside which gives the ball a little more weight. The balls are yellow but have the words 'Kong' and 'Squeaker' on either side in blue writing. The balls are firm but easily squeezable meaning that my dogs can unfortunately make them squeak without much effort.

The squeak is loud and repetitive and while it was fun at first watching them run around squeaking the balls after a few days it began to get really annoying and I've had to take them off them a few times when it was late as the squeeking woke my daughter up.

The balls are really bouncy and bounce really high, especially on hard ground. They are easy to throw a long way so they're ideal for fetch. My dogs mainly chew on them or throw them around and although my husky managed to rip open one of them and puncture the squeeker the other two balls are still in tact - if a little grubby seeing as the material is hard to clean.

My dogs, especially my husky gets beyond excited whenever I hold one of these up and as soon as I begin to squeek it he will go crazy and start barking in excitement. All of my dogs can easily carry one of these in their mouth so they are able to quickly retrieve it. We have the large size but there's also a medium and small version so they are suitable for all dogs breeds.

I highly recommend these balls. They're good quality and my dogs love them. While they're not indestructable they are a lot more durable than a normal tennis ball and the squeeker is a nice feature although it is quite loud and can easily become annoying! Four out of five stars.

Summary: 4/5 Stars
