INTRODUCTION

Being the proud owner of two rather large dogs and a moulting cat, grooming it part of my everyday life, I can spend hours brushing and de-matting the animals to get rid of any excess hair that seems to gather up in every space possible.

I have to hoover on a daily basis as they all shed hair, so I am always on the look out for new grooming tools to help limit the amount of hair that always seems to blanket my carpets.

This Ancol Ergo double sided brush is a grooming brush that I have had for a few years, but as my cat is getting really old her fur is coming out in clumps I needed to take action as her hair was becoming worse than the two dogs for shedding.

I had I dig out under my stairs cupboard, where everything pet related gets stored and I found this brush, I thought it would be perfect to sort out the cat's fur problem.

THE PRODUCT

The Ergo pet range were first produced for the professional pet groomers, but as the years have gone on they have expended and started to design products for the actual pet owner to use. I fell this is the best thing they ever did as it save money as you no longer have to send you pet to the hairdressers every four weeks.

Ancol Ergo double sided brush is advertised as a dog grooming brush, but I have been using this on both my dogs and the cat and it has given me surprising results, as both dogs and the cat are more than willing to let me brush them with it.

The brush is a double sided so it is great for removing any dead hair, undercoat with the side that has the metal bristles on it, one the other side is a much softer brush that smoothes and also removes excess hair.

The metal prongs are place within a cushioned pad so they have room to move without really pulling at the pets hair, each prong has a small blue bobble on each end to stop the prong scratching and stabbing at you pets skin, This is the most effective part of the brush and really does remove shedding hair that has no place to go except the floor.

The softer brush has very soft bristles that are very closely set together, this side of the brush does not penetrate the hair very well but it seems to increase the shine on their coats, This is good for removing the finer loose hair that the other side of the brush does not collect and the animals love this side as it seems to massage them to the extent that they are dribbling.

This brush is grey and blue and has a very well designed handle, it is very easy to hold and manoeuvre when grooming for long periods of time, it has a cushion grip handle which is very good as you hand will not get sore when grooming really knotty hair, which is something I contend with everyday with the dogs.

PRICE / AVAILABLITY

I bought this neat little brush from an independent pet shop in Barnsley when I was visiting a relative, is cost me 4.85 which is very cheap as good brushes can cost a small fortune.

As I am reviewing this brush I decided to have a look online and see if you can buy it else where is I don't even know the name of the shop I bought it from.

I have seen these for as little as 3.72 plus postage and ww.amazon.co.uk are currently offering it for 5.99 with free super saver postage as it is over five pounds.

MY OPINION

I am so happy with this very cheap brush, I can't believe I have not continually used it but I am always buying new brushes so it was something I had forgotten about.

The design of this brush is fantastic, not only is it very easy to use and easy to clean but the pets love it to. It is very rare that I have found a brush that is both comfortable for me and my pets that actually works.

Ever since I got the brush back out I now have a line of animals waiting for their daily groom, which is very surprising as my oldest dog didn't really like this first time round but now she loves it. Maybe it is her jealous side coming out as she want the attention the other two are getting when I brush them with this.

The brush is highly effective on the metal bristle side but the softer side does not do to much, but if I have been pulling out their hair for ten minutes I don't mind spending a few minutes grooming with the softer side for their pleasure, as they really seem to enjoy it.

This is great for removing shedding hair and minor matted areas, but this will not remove excessive matting. I would recommend this for day to day grooming of dogs and cats.

If you have a cat hair problem I would strongly recommend this as it will cover all of your needs, but to sort out certain doggy hair problems this may not be suitable.
