Animology Dog Shampoo Puppy Love
If you have read my other pet reviews you will know that we have recently added a lovely furry addition to our family. A rather large three month old labradoodle, who most of the time is only messy rather than being head to toe dirty. However, we have been doing a lot of gardening of late, uprooting bushes, digging up roots, etc, and parts of the garden have been a bit of a disaster zone. Of course those messy mucky areas are exactly where the puppy beelines for as soon as he is allowed outside. The majority of time this isn't a bad thing, he looks like he has great fun, but one afternoon he decided to roll around and make a proper mess. It had been raining earlier that day so the muck mounds were not only dirty but properly appealing to a young dog. My labradoodle is entirely black apart from that day when he was entirely brown. I was so glad that I had already had purchased some puppy shampoo in a previous shopping trip for those just in case days.
Initially, when I was looking for a puppy shampoo I was a bit confused where to start as there were so many different varieties available. Initially it was the name of this one that caught my attention - puppy love and the attractive black and pink packaging. After reading a bit about the product I decided that it wouldn't hurt having this just in case I needed it.
The shampoo does say that it doesn't create too much of a lather to make it easier to rinse out. However, I would have liked it to lather a bit more than it did, I kept having to dispense a bit more of this out to get enough shampoo to wash off all the dirt that was clinging to the pup's coat.
This shampoo is meant to be gentle on your pup's skin and coat while helping to deodorise and clean. It is ph neutral and I can say that it did leave his hair feeling nice, clean and fluffy. Importantly the shampoo wasn't too harsh and didn't seem to dry out his hair and apart from sulking because he was given a bath he suffered no ill effects.
The puppy love shampoo does have a fragrance to it but it isn't really a strong scent. I find it rather pleasant but not that noticeable which is exactly what I wanted from a puppy shampoo. After using this as well there is a faint hint of the smell on my pup's coat but he just mostly smells clean and the typical wet dog odour.
It's best not to wash puppies or dogs too often as you might hinder the build up of natural oils that protect their coats. However, we all have to share the same house and it would be nice to make this as pleasant as possible so I am sure the occasional bath is a must. I also use this shampoo to give his feet and legs a wash when they get dirty, which is a regular occurrence. I have also used a little bit of this shampoo to clean his poopy bums.
I bought this from Pet's At Home for £4.49, but it is also available to buy online and I have seen it on Amazon. However, this shampoo will last us for quite a while because you don't need that much of it and it is great to have around for those times when they might need to have an unplanned bath.
Overall, I was pleased with the results of this shampoo and I would recommend it to other people with a puppy or dog. I am going to give this a puppy loving four out of five stars.
