Advantages: Tasty nutritional treat for dogs (over 9 months?)

Disadvantages: fairly soft, doesn't leave fresh breath however!

My 8 month old staffordshire bull terrier/ shar-pei cross is very spoilt and I am always buying him new treats. I like to give him a large chew a day designed for teeth, but suprisingly he is very fussy about this (I say surprising because he eats everything else). I have tried a number of brands to no avail- he just leaves them!

I saw these in Wilkinsons priced at £1.30 for 7 chews- the ones I purchased were for medium dogs of 10-25kg and advertised as 'flavoured with beef' and 'low fat'. They come in a handy resealable bag to keep them fresh. It was, however, only after I had given him the chew I noted the 'not suitable for puppies under 9 months' in small print so blind panic set in- this is something I have never seen on dog treat packaging before, 4 months yes, but 9 months? As an inexperienced dog owner I was also unsure about the guidance to 'adjust main meal accordingly'- exactly how much of his food should I remove? I found it's information very vague!

I'm pleased to report no adverse effects on Rafael, but am still curious as to why the age is set so high. Back to the product, I found it quite hard to believe it has a great deal to offer in the dental department because it is not what I would call a 'hard' chew, which of course would assist tartar removal. Bakers claim it is the shape of the chew that removes the tartar build up. I have to say that Rafael loved this dental chew, so much it possibly only remained in his mouth approx. 5 seconds! Unlike other dental chews, it didnt leave any mess, but didn't freshen his breath at all, just made it meaty!

On a plus side it does appear to contain a broad range of vitamins and minerals, which has got to be a good thing! I would also say that it's packaging is made up of a variety of vibrant colours which certainly makes it stand out on a shelf and it's price is as competative as other leading dental chews, so overall, I would buy them again because he clearly loved the taste, but will continue to buy rawhide chews for their hardness

Summary: A tasty and nutritional treat for pet but dental credentials questionable
