For all you dooyooers that are unaware I am lucky enough to share my life with 5 lovable mutts and they really do love their home comforts. My family's 3 working Springer Spaniels live the life of riley in large kennels outside (and trust me they wouldn't have it any other way, they do prefer living outdoors) whilst the house is home to an elderly Cocker Spaniel and a rather namby pamby German Shorthaired Pointer. My pointer is especially fond of blankets, anything soft and squishy to be honest and she just loves wrapping herself up all snug and warm with just her nose peeking out. Unfortunately my cocker spaniel can be quite a chewer when the fancy takes him and so quite a few of her favourite doggy blankets got destroyed by his OAP chompers.
I have done a bit of shopping on zooplus.com and since the fiasco with the guinea pig cage not arriving on time and my receiving a dog muzzle instead I must say that they have upped their act and their service is ten times better than what it was. One of the purchases I have made from them is the Barney fleece blanket by the brand Trixie which can be bought for under £8.00. This blanket is also available to buy from various other websites, though at the moment it is zooplus that has a sale on - you can buy the beige version of this blanket for just £4.90 which is a £3.00 saving on the original price of £7.90. This blanket is available in 2 different colour ways: black with beige paw prints and beige with black paw prints, I myself opted for the black version before the sale.
This blanket is a large size, 150 x 100cm and is just perfect for my little diva to cocoon herself in; the pattern is bold though in all honesty I don't think your dog will care what it looks like. The fleece material is a good thickness and is easily washed, you simply pop the blanket into the washing machine and give it a spin and it comes out as good as new; the colours haven't faded at all despite regular washing but it is worth noting that you shouldn't wash it at temperatures over 30°C. This blanket has had a few nibbles on by the pensioner hound but is still holding up well; a fair price to pay for a quality pet blanket.
After bringing home my beautiful Minnie (yorkshire terrier), I have almost given her too much love. Whilst my mum would prefer she slept in her own bed downstairs - shes taken a shine to my much more comfortable bed upstairs. After trying to get her into her own bed for a while, we have given up and let her stay.. but on her own blanket on the end of the bed!
The blanket only cost me £4.99 from www.surreypetsuplies.co.uk which I think is almost too low for such a lovely product. It can be brought in the following: beige with black paws, black with beige paws and black with grey paws. Due to the colours throughout my house (and my mum needing to co-ordinate everything) we opted for the black with grey. It does go lovely with all our decor!
Measuring at approximately 1m x 1.5m, its a very good size. The paw prints are quite big and make it obviously a pet blanket. Its really lightweight so if it is over my feet I am not too bothered, whereas some are too heavy and irritate. Having only a small dog, size was not really an issue but Minnie has a tendancy to roll all over the place and its good to know she isn't getting her hairs all over my bed - I never realised how much yorkies malt! It might just be her but my goodness she leaves a lot of hairs about!
The blanket has been in my home now for around a month, still in very good condition but like all dog blankets it does need a wash every now and then. I found it really easy to wash this as it simply goes in the washing machine and hangs on the line like everything else. Although I wouldn't recommend washing with your clothes due to hygiene. It dries really quickly too but being fleecy it can seem damp for a while.
I know that we really should have a dog bed, but she just refuses to sleep anywhere else! I would recommend this to anyone wishing to keep beds, sofas and other things free of pet hair as its really lightweight, easy to clean and doesn't look tacky in your home. Minnie is in love with this now and it gets dragged (at least she attemps to drag) it round the house! I couldn't fault this blanket at all - especially at such a low price!
My mum got a new leather sofa at the beginning of the year, which 3 of my dogs love to lay on but my older, more fragile (and OCD!) dog Talia doesn't like laying on it as it is quite cold and takes time to warm up. She has issues with her bones and also has to have a blanket near her at all times due to her OCD habits, so we try to make sure she is always warm and cosey, which is why I bought this blanket. I got it from PetPlanet, an online pet supplies store for £8.16. By buying via the PetPlanet website I saved £5.10 as the RRP is £13.26 which I think is ridiculous - it's a good blanket but certainly not worth £13! We usually use the dog fleece throws from Poundland but they weren't large enough and kept falling off the leather sofa - this one doesn't.
The blanket is a decent size, and measures 150 x 100cm. It has large paw prints all over it which vary in colour depending on which colour blanket you choose. The blanket is available in a navy blue or a nice sandy colour. I got the sandy colour so that Talia's blonde hair doesn't show up as much as it would on the navy. The paws on the sandy coloured one are black. The blanket is lightweight and very soft. It is large enough to cover almost all of the three seater sofa and because of the fleece like material it doesn't slip off. It can also be folded if you want to use this for a small dog and it is also a good blanket for cats.
The material is nice and soft and has a very cosey, relaxing feel to it. It does pick up hairs quite easily though but can be washed at 30 degrees. It washes well and dries quickly - usually within half an hour which is great as that way the blanket can go straight back onto the sofa for Talia to lay on. The blanket can also be used in cars to keep the seats hair free, but as all of my dogs hate the car I haven't used it for this purpose (yet) although on Talia's next visit to the vets we will be taking this into the car with her to comfort her as she really does love it and as it's large in size she can be covered with it too as well as laying on it. Although the material is lightweight it is very robust and has survived multiple adventures of been dragged into the garden and been tugged around so I can not really fault it!
