Advantages: Very durable, lightweight, dogs love it
Disadvantages: Doesn't bounce. Price is an initial put-off but it is worth every penny
My dogs have had their boomer ball for around three months now and it is one of their favourite toys.
I bought ours from Petplanet and they are very widely available. I've got three large breed dogs and one medium breed dog so decided to buy the largest size available but there are four different sizes to choose from meaning that they are suitable for all breeds of dogs, however as the ball isn't designed to be carried around in the dogs mouth it doesn't really matter if you get a medium sized dog a large one if that makes sense.
I paid around £14.99 for ours as it was on offer at the time but the largest one (which we have) retails at around £20.00 which I know sounds hideously overpriced for a dog ball but I assure you it is worth it and my dogs get heaps of enjoyment out of it pretty much everyday. The ball is marketed as being 'one of the toughest toys on the market' and the manufacturers claim that it is 'virtually indestructable' as well as puncture proof.
My dogs have had heaps of footballs over the past few years that we have either bought or found and all of them have been punctured within a few days so this seemed like a good way of saving money as if it was true about it being puncture proof I'd never have to buy another football sized ball again. The ball is the same size and shape as a football and it is made from a hard, smooth plastic type of material rather than the usual rubbery type of material that most dog toys are made of.
This means that it is much harder for the dog to get a proper grip of, resulting in a long game of chase. The ball is available in a two different colours - blue and red. I opted for the red which is nice and bright making it easy to spot on the grass. The ball is lightweight and goes quite far whenever my dogs tap it or nudge it but it doesn't bounce very well and it doesn't squeak or anything, either. My husky is ball mad and my other three dogs aren't that interested in balls usually but to my suprise they all enjoy chasing this around and attempting to get a grip of it/pick it up.
The ball is waterproof and floats on water but we just use this in the garden on the patio and grass. On the few ocassions that we bought it inside the tv nearly got knocked over because Clyro got so over excited and was chasing it around like a maniac! The few times that the dogs have tried to bite the ball they've not punctured it or even made a dent. The ball gets quite slobbery and mucky quickly but it is easy to wipe clean. It is too bulky for us to take out on walks with us and hard to carry as it's not easy to get a grip of so we just keep it at home in the garden.
The ball overall is great value for money. It is very well made and durable and my dogs get lots of enjoyment out of it. The only disadvantage that I am able to think of is that it isn't bouncy but this is not really much of an issue! Although it doesn't squeak it keeps my dogs entertained and they usuallly spend 10 minutes or so each morning having a mad play with it - chasing it around the garden, barking at it, leaping on it and attempting to pop it! I do think that they find it a little frustrating not being able to pick it up and carry it around but it keeps them entertained and is in good conditon after three months of regular play.
Five out of five stars.
