When I moved out after splitting up with my husband I moved in to a rented house in which I am not meant to have pets. I say not meant to have pets because one day my ex showed up at my house to tell me that he would be sending our then nine year old collie to an animal shelter because he was basically too selfish to actually look after her properly. There was never a question of that happening for me and so I agreed to let Jess live here with me. When she moved in here with me I needed to buy her a bed and bowls and things so the natural place to visit for me was pets at home and it is there that I purchased the Ferplast plastic food bowl.
The bowl that I bought for Jess is made from a red plastic and although you can buy them in various sizes with the smaller ones suiting small dogs and probably cats too I needed to buy one of a good size because Jess isn't a small dog. The one that I bought was a 2 litre bowl and cost me just short of five pounds from memory a couple of years ago. The bowl features a good sized area in which I can place Jess's food and I see no reason why you couldn't use it as a water bowl too to be honest.
The bowl feels relatively heavy and this is one of the reasons that I bought it because I was hoping that Jess wouldn't be able to shove it around as she ate but sadly she can still move this a bit especially the more she eats as well as the bowl then becomes lighter obviously. I do wish this bowl was a bit deeper too only because Jess has recently developed a habit of shoving her biscuits out of her bowl with her nose and I think this is too easy for her to do with this bowl sadly.
There are really handy gaps in the plastic at the bottom of the bowl which makes it really easy to pick up and fill with food for your pet I think as there is somewhere for you to grip the bowl without having to pop your hands in to the part where the food is placed.
The plastic bowl is really easily washed and I just throw it in the sink and give it a really good scrub every now and then because even though Jess usually just eats dry dog food I think they must get a bit grubby.
I do recommend this bowl if you have a dog that isn't particularly strong or likely to shove their bowl around the kitchen. It is only recently as Jess has got older that she has started being fussy with her food and shoving it out on to the floor and I think this is possibly something to do with her losing her sight slowly as well. It isn't too expensive and is a good size for a large dog in my opinion and it has lasted the two years we have owned it without any real issues.
