I needed to replace some of my Chihuahua's toys as his were starting to look a bit worn. I ordered him a new Kong, and as I was browsing amazon, I noticed these Kong Squiggles toys. I like the look of them being long and furry, and I liked the idea that they have squeakers in because I felt it was a bit different to the other toys that my dog has.

Being a Kong toy, I thought this would be a tough toy that would last a little while at least, but it has been a bit of a disappointment I have to say. My dog is 8 months old, so he is still very chewy, but I didn't think he would destroy this quite as quickly as he has, especially as he is such a small dog.

Ordering from Amazon, I didn't get a choice over which squiggles toy I got. There are 4 designs - an elephant, a monkey, a donkey and a rabbit. I paid £3.38 plus £1.05 postage for the toy, and it arrived with me last Wednesday. This is only 5 days ago. We received the donkey toy. This is really nice looking when new, with a donkey head on one end of the toy with a squeaker inside it, a long elasticated body which is quite stretchy, and a round ball shape at the other end. The colours are lovely - green, purple, pink and yellow. They are very bright colours which are really attractive, and very soft to the touch.

The packaging advised that this is not a chew toy, and this should not be left with the dog. As my dog is caged when we are not with him and overnight, he has not been left alone with this toy.

He did take to this toy straight away, and found it eay to run around with it in his mouth. He either picked it up by the ears, or he would pick it up from the middle. It weighs just 41g, and is 20cm by 6cm by 7cm in dimensions, so it is not that big for him to carry.

I noticed that he very quickly had pulled some of the fibre of the fluffy material away from the toy so you could see a white mesh fabric on the ball end of the toy. There was some bits off fluff on the rug in my living room, but I thought he would not do much more damage than that. Then last night while he was sat at my feet playing with this under supervision, we noticed that he had managed to completely tear the ball section of the toy and had managed to remove the squeaker and bite a hole in it. We took the squeaker off him before he swallowed it, and then the next thing we noticed was he had pulled out loads of stuffing. This was quickly taken off him then before he choked on it.

I am not naive and I appreciate that it is pretty hard to make indestructible toys. I also appreciate that it is not a chew toy, but I find that it is really disappointing that a dog toy has been so badly wrecked in such a short time. I bought the correct size for his breed, and he is not the strongest chewer with him only being a toy dog, so I feel expecting it to last longer than 4 days is not that much to ask.

I am just glad I did not leave him unattended with this, as if he had eaten the stuffing or swallowed the squeaker I might have needed vet treatment for it.

If you buy this toy for your pet, I would say just make sure that you don't leave them unattended with it as once the pet finds a weakness in the toy, the destruction of it is pretty quick.

Personally, I don't think it is worth buying after my own experience with it, and I will be sticking to harder dog toys in future that will not be wrecked in a few days. Otherwise I might as well save my efforts and just put my hard earned cash straight in the bin.
